The No Bad Ideas Podcast is the creation of Gabriel Urbina, Sarah Shachat, and Zach Valenti, three writer and artist-types who, in order to stay fresh creatively, have an excuse to hang out with each other once a week, and check in on what they're working on, take a terrible idea they found on the Internet each week and turn it into a compelling narrative. Or as close as they can get in 30 minutes. If you're someone trying to be creative yourself or even if you just appreciate a good story, you'll enjoy listening to Zach, Sarah, and Gabriel figure out how to make sense of the best (or worst?) absurdities the internet has to offer. We guarantee there have definitely been worse ideas.
||ExplicitEpisode 11: Sharknappers!!||Welcome back to No Bad Ideas, the show where we take bad ideas from the real world and try to turn them into good stories (and the points don't matter). This week, Gabriel takes Zach and Sarah on a wild journey to the seedy world of San Antonio aquarium heists. What is the most dangerous thing you could try to steal? And what is the most ridiculous way you could steal it? Plus illegal exotic pet farms, Oceans 11 as a pun now, and the place where everything good was stolen from somewhere else. ||ExplicitEpisode 10: Poor Billy Bob Tough Guy||Welcome back, everyone! New year, same old set up: we find some bad ideas, and then bang our heads together until we've figured out how to turn them into a good story. This week, Sarah infects Gabriel and Zach with the idea behind a truly (and thankfully) one-of-a-kind museum. Plus, much more ado, chaotic agents, and the closest you're going to get to death without actually dying. ||ExplicitEpisode 9: Cyrano™ (with Michelle Agresti)||Happy Holidays, everyone! As an end-of-year present to ourselves, we brought our first guest on the show: actress and performer extraordinaire, Michelle Agresti! Michelle worked with us on our audio drama series Wolf 359, and she brings to the table a bad idea unlike any we've tackled before. Grab your smart phones, boot up your Instagram filters, and get ready for a rom-tragi-com, No Bad Ideas style! Plus, happy endings (for some people), the world's best/worst wingmen, and Peonies for Algernon. For more of Michelle's work, do yourselves a favor and check out Arden and Hit The Bricks. ||ExplicitEpisode 8: All Flash, All Bang||Our first really Not Safe For Work episode, so beware of listening out loud at work. Zach takes Gabriel and Sarah to the world of theater with 100% the poetic irony and pretentiousness you expect, and at least 50% more g******s than you expect. Plus, totally BS fire safety laws, tortured metaphors, and costumes you shouldn't think about too much. ||ExplicitEpisode 7: Shadow Kung Fu Wresting... with Bulls||No, you read that right. This week on No Bad Ideas, we tackle a new twist on an old sport that is so, so unnecessarily dangerous, that... we just had to try to turn it into a story. Plus: how did yogurt happen, yet another twist on the Rocky formula, and the heebie jeebies of it all. ||ExplicitEpisode 4: Burn It More||This week, Gabriel unleashes 400 phobia inducing creatures and one tender hearted man on Sarah and Zach and - spoilers - they are not ready. Join us for The Animal episode, where barns are burned, The Oscars get baited, Timmy is terrified of tarantulas, and there is conflict everywhere in the world. ||ExplicitEpisode 3: We Don't Wanna Do Batman, We Wanna Do Chaos||This week, Sarah throws Gabriel and Zach a curveball with weirdness from the world of sports. The madness metastasizes quickly into unwieldily pranks and conspiracies involving - among many, many other things - so many drones bearing catfish that the sun gets blotted out of the sky in downtown Nashville. ||ExplicitEpisode 2: Don't Sell Your Data||And we're back for our second episode! This week, in our continuing quest to see if we can turn the worst ideas that can be found on the Internet into good stories, we explore the pros and cons of selling your online identity to a mysterious, wealthy stranger. Plus, nonzero days, the shadow of past work, corrupt politicians, the cost of utopias, and time travel. it’s really nice to hear some lovely people bounce ideas off each other and talk about writing and have a good time :)
Creative, Casual, and Constantly Funny
Starting out with a strong premise, this team (responsible for a whole host of great podcast content already, including Wolf 359 and the recently released Time Bombs) delves into the ins and outs of writing through some of the most creative-yet-hilarious ideas I've heard in a while. (Not bad ones, though. There are no bad ideas here.) A must-listen for writers, evil scientists, or really anyone interested in the ins and outs of stories or looking to have a good time. If they can turn eBay death rays into something plausible and coherent, there's no telling where they'll go next, and I can't wait to listen to more and more episodes of this great podcast in the future.
Great to See The Band Back Together!
Jumping into my first episode of NBI and it's great to hear the voices of my favorite audio drama podcast writer/actors! Thus far ... a podcast to stir your creative juices by some incredibly creative people!
