Snark without Humor

I am a fan of Slash Filmcast, Filmspotting, and Battleship Pretension, so Operation Kino seemed like it might be right up my alley (especially since I had heard Katey Rich before, I think on Slash Filmcast). At times, this show has what I like about the other shows. But I am not enjoying this show as much, and am not sure I'll keep listening. I guess it's a matter of taste, but for me the tone of the banter is too snarky. Snark can be good when it's funny, but here it just seems to be the background noise of the show.

My favorite movie podcast that I'm not a part of

This is one of the best movie podcasts around. The hosts are not only funny, charming, and engaging, but also genuinely passionate and knowledgable about the subject. Listening to them go back and forth is like having a fantastically nerdy conversation of your own with your best film-going buddies. And while I don't always agree with their opinions, I certainly respect them. Comes with my highest recommendation.

abort this operation

An outlet for those pretentious types from film school who champion their opinions as truth and act like anyone else's viewpoint is rubbish. Sometimes, I'm curious to hear what they have to say on a particular but end up fast forwarding or turning the show off. It feels like the hosts prefer out snarking each other over having an intriguing discussion. The hosts seem like they want to say the most outrageous things just to get attention. I remember one host blithely state Harrison Ford never made a good film and then proclaim the last Transformers movie was some gamechanger. Please.
