Description

Originally taught as a Doctor of Ministry course, Dr. Keller and Dr. Clowney (1917-2005) ask, “Is Jesus made visible in every sermon or only talked about?” By analyzing and deconstructing other models of preaching that either exhort on moral levels or attempt to evoke an emotional response, Dr.’s Keller and Clowney provide a model of preaching that is Christocentric. This model of preaching focuses on three aspects to guide the listener and preacher: First, how does this text tell me about Christ? Second, how does this text show that the listener’s life is poor without Christ. Third, how to lead the listener to worship and adore Christ. NOTE: We are not able to provide the notes that Drs. Keller and Clowney mention throughout the course at this time.

Truly Phenomenal

If you (like me) appreciate Tim Keller's preaching and would like a better understanding of how he gets there, this is an incredibly wonderful resource. I'm an aspiring preacher and seminary student, so this class was right up my alley. Really though, I would recommend this course to any Christian who wants to deepen their understanding of how to teach the Bible in a winsome, contextual (both Scripturally and culturally), and transformative way.

Both the lectures and Q&A sessions are very helpful, convicting, encouraging, challenging - even moving. I was brought to tears on several occassions. Even the "mini-sermons" were powerful.

Before listening to this course, I was largely unfamiliar with Ed Clowney, but the tag-team effort here with Keller worked quite well. Clowney seemed like a wise, gentle, sympathetic older man. Keller seemed like a great teacher who really understands the concepts and is able to articulate them well.

I plan on listening to this course at least once a year, not only for the information, but also for my soul's sake. It fed my mind and my heart. I really can't recommend it enough. Download these now.

Such a good resource and there is a syllabus

This is an incredible resource that will redefine how you preach the gospel. With a little luck, you can find a syllabus in .pdf floating around the interwebs. You’ll know you’ve found it because it’s 189 pages of pure gold.

Another hyperbolic review.

Whether you are a preacher or a layman, this is an amazing resource that will change how you see the art of the sermon.

Many lectures such as these tend to be too "insider" and become mechanical methodologies that sound like sales tactics. But it's easy to tell that Tim Keller and Edmund Clowney LOVE Jesus and highly honor the preaching of God's Word. They also care about the hearer and desperately want them to see the beauty of Jesus.

Pros: Tim Keller does an incredible job of breaking down a person's natural defenses when they hear a sermon, including many preachers' personal anxieties when preaching (such as the need for approval and touching on hard subjects). The best lectures are Applying Christ: Getting Into Their World, and Adoring Christ, particularly the last two. These will cut you to the heart. Clowney also brings some humor here and the confidence of experience.

Cons: Everything is great here, but a judicious editor took our nearly ALL the pauses in the audio, so Keller and Clowney end up sounding breathless. I wish they would've left the pauses to give us time to digest, but as it is, pausing on our own will do.

Bottom Line: Download and listen. I will be listening to these again and again. Also, if you do some digging online, you can find the notes and handouts that go with these lectures.
