Behind those closed doors of Broadway

I’ll get my gripe out of the way early… I wish the sound quality was better. Ken seems to be traveling to different locations to get these interviews (which offers a host of problems, I know), but these days there’s no excuse. Thousands of podcasts out there with a professional sheen to them… why-oh-why can’t the Broadway podcast outshine them?!

Besides that, I think this podcast is excellent. Ken has wisely sought out individuals who are passionate and smart, most of them are people we never seem to hear from. Drew Hodges, Rick Miramontez, and Nina Lannan have been standouts so far. Spend a few more bucks on production and keep ‘em coming, Ken!

Please Improve Audio Quality

5 for content, 3 for sound quality! They always sound like they're recording in a bathroom! Plenty of podcasts that are more grass rootsy or lower budget sound better than this. Get a new microphone or record in a studio! Please! It's almost impossible to listen to these. You can do better, Ken.

This is the place to come for insightful and robust Broadway insider information! Ken has a wonderful manner with his guests; warm and engaging while still professional and productive… and just dishy enough to be fun without losing credibility. I love the array of guests from every aspect of the Broadway spectrum, from the spotlight to behind the scenes, to the front line in the house, out into the marketing ether, and beyond. Ken covers it all.

I’ve read a few comments from people who aren’t happy with the sound quality, which varies from podcast to podcast depending on the location. For me, the variance in the sound quality and the little hiccups here and there (a siren in the background, laughter in the next office, a text coming in, a chair creaks, etc.) and the reverb which provides a sense of the size of the room, are all part of the podcast’s charm. It makes the podcast feel authentic and genuine, as if I were right there in the room. I love and actually look forward to all of these little acoustic “extras,” and frankly will be a little bit disappointed if Ken ever does shift to a slick, noise-free format.

I would also like to remind the people complaining about the sound quality that the podcasts are free. ☺
