Stretching my thinking about my faith

I have always loved the Festival of Faith and Writing where my thinking is stretched by authors and books that take faith seriously as thy grapple with the real world. I am both a writer and a retired librarian, but the festival also attracts many who are simply enthusiastic readers. Speakers are not limited to traditional Christians, but include other authors who wrestle with faith in their writing whether or not they are personally believers. The content is always far more than I can absorb in four days, so these podcasts allow me to spread out the enrichment through the year and catch sessions I missed at the time. They also allow for a much larger audience. Production is superb. I love the way sessions are often introduced by interviewing the facilitator who coordinated the original session about the material.

Amazing Resource

This podcast is a real gift. Whether you're a longtime attender of Calvin College's Festival of Faith and Writing or you just have an interest in intelligent conversations that center on the role belief plays in literature, you're in for a treat. Wonderful content, incredible production values. I'll be on the look out for more from the Calvin Center for Faith and Writing.

Saladin Ahmed talks about Dearborn and reads some of his novel

Having spent much of my childhood in Dearborn, MI, I enjoyed Saladin's talk about growing up in Dearborn -- a second generation Muslim American in a huge immigrant community replete with Arabic chatter and fragrantly spiced cooking smells. Must have wrapped grape leaves! Then he read one of his stories to give me a feel for a Muslim tough guy in sci fi lit. Who knew? Loved this. This podcast was recorded when he spoke at a 2016 Writers Conference put on at the small midwestern Christian college. Yes I've been to the conference several times and also received my BA, English there. Never disappoints.
