CleanTwo Premiers challenge Prime Minister; MP punished by Liberal Party for being transparent; United we Roll protest convoy closes in on Ottawa; Former Premier derides parliamentary ethics probe | The Roy Green Show Podcast - Yesterday Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and CPC leader Andrew Scheer participated at a pipeline capacity increase rally at Moosomin, Saskatchewan. The point was to draw attention to the controversial Bill C-69 which will create major changes to review of proposed energy projects. Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan court challenge of the Trudeau government's imposition of a carbon tax on the province is currently underway. And Premier Blaine Higgs insists the Energy East pipeline construction issue must be revisited as his province experiences daily the importation of hundreds of thousands of barrels of foreign oil for New Brunswick refineries like the Irving refinery in Saint John. Premiers Scott Moe and Blaine Higgs join Roy to start the podcast, and discuss these issues. What does happen when an MP refuses an offer or refuses to buckle under pressure from the party leader and party whip who demand that MP end a personal practice? The story of former Liberal MP Michelle Simson answers that question. She was posting all of her MP expenses online, and she was sanctioned by party leadership for refusing to end this practice. Michelle joins fellow former Liberal MP Dan McTeague, to discuss the current state of the Liberal party and how she was handled. We touch base again with the organizers of the 80+ strong United We Roll truck convoy which left Red Deer, Alberta earlier in the week and now is in Ontario. The convoy is making its way to Ottawa for a protest rally on Tuesday, to alert the federal government to the economic plight of many thousands who work in the Western Canadian energy sector and to challenge Bills C-69 and C-48. And if a parliamentary ethics commissioner finds wrongdoing what is the actual penalty? Parliamentary ethics commissioner Mario Dion has announced an investigation into whether Justin Trudeau/the PMO pressured former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to persuade federal prosecutors to not go forward with a criminal trial of SNC-Lavalin. Former Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Brian Peckford writes on his blog: "As usual we go through the motions, trying to maintain that such 'motions' constitute real accountability. The falsity of it all is breathtaking." - Guests: Scott Moe. Premier of Saskatchewan Blaine Higgs. Premier of New Brunswick Michelle Simson (sanctioned former Ontario MP) Dan McTeague, former Ontario Liberal MP on the issue of party discipline Glen Carritt, convoy organizer Mark Friesen, who assisted in organizing the convoy Brian Peckford, former Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador | 2/17/2019 | Free | View in iTunes |

CleanBonus Interview - The investigation into the attack on actor Jussie Smollett changes trajectory, but why? | Empire star Jussie Smollett appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday and told Robin Roberts that he believed it he was attacked by two men because of his anti-Donald Trump public position. The attackers reportedly shouted racist and homophobic slogans while pouring a noxious substance over Smollett and putting a rope around his neck. But now sources close to the investigation have told CBS and CNN that the two men arrested in the connection to the attack, Nigerian brothers who are cooperating with Chicago police, have claimed that Smollett paid them for a staged attack. According to Global News, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told CBS Chicago they “can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation.” This all raises a big question: why would Smollett or anyone want to stage an attack on themselves? Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer joins the show to provide the CPC perspective and assessment. An online poll published by Macleans shows 73% of Canadians say Jody Wilson-Raybould has the most credibility, and 27% say Justin Trudeau does. What is the reaction from the Indigenous community of Canada to the question all of Canada wants to know the truth about? And how are Trudeau's changing claims and his treatment of Jody Wilson-Raybould being received by the indigenous community? Calvin Helin, lawyer and son of a B.C. hereditary Chief, speaks to Roy about this. Eleven-year-old Riya Rajkumar was murdered on her 11th birthday, Valentine's Day. Her 41 year old father Roopesh Rajkumar is facing a first degree murder charge. What went wrong on Valentine's Day evening? Did police miss an opportunity to perhaps save Riya? Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington writes today that even police are asking themselves that question. Across Canada, people are grieving over Riya’s senseless death. The 'United We Roll' Convoy left Red Deer, Alberta, two days ago and is making its way to Ottawa. It is scheduled to arrive next Tuesday. CleanBC money laundering/public inquiry; A Western Canada political party & QC supports Trudeau; Health tourists importing superbugs | The Roy Green Show Podcast - Global News analysis reveals provinces across Canada largely fail to successfully tackle these financial crimes, with roughly three quarters of people accused going free. The conviction rate is about 27%. "It's scandalous" said forensic accountant Matt McGuire, who previously worked for FINTRAC, Canada's watchdog against money laundering. "It's quite clear the system isn't working. It's mind boggling." Roy is joined by Andrew Russel, the national online investigative journalist with Global News who covered this story. In B.C., opinion is strongly in favour of a public inquiry into organized crime and money laundering in the province. In fact, in a province-wide poll conducted by IPSOS for Global News, a B.C. money laundering public inquiry is backed by every demographic that was asked. Roy speaks with CKNW host and columnist with the Vancouver Province Mike Smyth, and later with Vice President of IPSOS Sean Simson The campaign for the October 21 federal election is clearly unofficially already underway. Two key regions in Canada for the vote are the Western provinces and Quebec. Angus Reid polling continues its review of Western Canadian attitude with its most recent polling release showing voters west of Ontario are open to a new 'Western Canada Party.' What does the poll reveal and what are the broader implications of the numbers? Leger polling in Quebec shows the Trudeau Liberals have a very comfortable lead among Quebec voters, while Andrew Scheer's Conservatives manages only to effectively come in tied with the separatist and resurgent Bloc Quebecois. What's going in Quebec? Do you have a common cold or the flu? That is the same question we find ourselves asking every year around this time. Jaston Tetro, a.k.a. “The Germ Guy,” explains how to tell the difference. And according to Global News, Measles cases tripled in Europe last year, reaching the highest it's been in a decade. Meanwhile there are concerns over superbugs being brought home to Canada by medical tourists. Jason Tetro gives his advice and thoughts on these issues. Our first guest, Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer, is demanding a parliamentary emergency meeting over the Trudeau/SNC-Lavalin allegation. And later Roy speaks with David Butt, Criminal lawyer and former prosecutor, about the available options that would permit Jody Wison-Raybould to answer the questions about any suggested interference. Meanwhile, Democracy Watch has released a letter to federal Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, insisting he delegate any investigation to a provincial ethics commissioner because Dion, in their words, was “chosen” by the Trudeau cabinet without consultation with opposition parties as required by the Parliament of Canada Act. Duff Conacher, the co-founder of Democracy Watch and adjunct professor of law and political science at the University of Ottaway, joins the show. Serial killer Bruce McArthur and Quebec City mosque mass killer Alexandre Bissonnette were sentenced yesterday. McArthur will be eligible to request parole at age 91 and Bissonnette who was sentenced to life, will nevertheless be eligible for parole in 40 years at age 69. Many are asking, Why were there no clear-cut consecutive life sentences? Scott Newark joins the show to discuss these two cases, as well as that of Clinton Gayle. Gayle was convicted of first degree murder in the 1994 killing of Toronto police officer Todd Baylis and of attempted murder of Baylis' partner Constable Mike Leone. The murder trial judge declared Gayle killed Officer Baylis in "execution style" with a shot from short range. Gayle becomes eligible for parole in June of this year. There is a petition and national drive underway to keep him in prison for life. Scott Newark also weighs in on the news that Omar Khadr wants an Alberta youth court to declare his sentence to be expired. More incidents of wearing blackface are becoming public, following the allegation that Governor of Virginia Ralph Northam wore blackface in a law school yearbook. Governor Northam denies he is featured in the photograph but admitted to wearing blackface once while dressed as Michael Jackson for a dance competition. Today it's Canadian comedian Mark Rowswell, a.k.a. Dashan, who on admitted on Twitter that he wore blackface with his friends in high school while impersonating the band The Temptations. In 2018, Canada received more planned refugees than any other country. Is it fair that Canada is shouldering so much of the worldwide refugee resettlement burden? We’ve been hearing about them for weeks now – the Yellow Vest protesters. Who are they? We know the movement started in France in response to fuel tax hikes, but what message is behind the movement that has established itself in Canada? Roy speaks with Mark Friesen, a Yellow Vest organizer from Saskatchewan, to get an idea of what the movement in Canada is all about. Mark is also an organizer of the truck convoy that is planning to travel from Alberta to Ottawa to protest numerous policies of the Trudeau government. And then, Roy is joined by a University of Western Ontario professor who says northern countries are under pressure from the United Nations Agenda on Social Development, which includes the Compact on Migration. Professor Salim Mansur wrote a column in the American Thinker entitled ‘Justin Trudeau's Canada Embraces a World Without Borders’. Lyle and Carol Brons are the parents of the Humboldt Broncos’ athletic therapist Dayna Brons, who lost her life in the horrific bus crash last April. They join Roy to weigh in on the five days of sentencing hearings for Jaskarit Singh Sidhu that are scheduled to begin tomorrow. Singh Sidhu has pleaded guilty to all criminal charges related to the deaths and injuries on the Broncos team bus, which was struck by the massive semi-truck he was driving. We often discuss the perpetrators of crime in Canada, but what about the victims? Roy is joined by a pair of guests to discuss what victims of crime face when dealing with the justice system and how it both works and doesn’t work. When Joe Wamback’s son Jonathan was 15 years old, he was horribly beaten by a gang in a park directly across from the family home in Newmarket, Ontario. Since then, Joe and his wife Lozanne have devoted their lives to working with and for victims of crime. In 2012, Joe walked across Canada to raise awareness of crime and victims. He’s appeared before parliament and the Senate, and has organized events across Canada for crime victims. Scott Newark is a friend of the show and a frequent guest with years of experience dealing with the Canadian justice system. He’s a former Alberta crown prosecutor, former executive director of the Ontario Office for Victims of Crime and former senior policy advisor to a federal Minister for Public Safety. Roy, Joe and Scott are later joined by Jessie Melo, the daughter of Canadian boxer Eddie "The Hurricane" Melo who was murdered in a contract killing by Charles Gagne. And how will these events affect Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Horgan? They both have enthusiastically tied their flags to the project. And what should we expect from the upcoming by-election in Burnaby for federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. Could Singh lose and throw the party into leadership chaos? Tuesday's vote in the British parliament could sink the government of Prime Minister Theresa May and possibly lead to a general election and a repeat of the Brexit referendum. Some of May's own Conservative MPs and the speaker of the British parliament have turned on her. Canada is meanwhile holding informal trade talks with the U.K. which would become formal if Britain exits the EU at the end of March. A B.C. couple is criminally charged after hog-tying a man they accuse of trying to lure their 13-year-old daughter into sex. Former Alberta Prosecutor Scott Newark weighs in on the story, and shares his experience working with the Toronto Sex Crimes division of the Toronto police. And then we turn our attention to Canada's new drunk driving law. Yesterday Toronto criminal lawyer Ari Goldkind defended police having the right to demand a breathalyzer at your home up to two hours after you're alleged to have driven. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said nothing of significance about Canada’s oil industry and energy sector, while in Regina earlier in the week. He also said nothing reassuring to foreign investors who have written to him, urging him to support the oil sands. All the while, there remains the issue of the rights of First Nations, regarding pipeline construction and natural resources development. Our guest argues that the planned convoy of trucks from Red Deer, Alberta, to Ottawa, to deliver a noisy protest against federal policies and legislation placed in the way of pipelines is the wrong approach. Roy speaks with Ken Coates, to find out why he believes there should instead be a massive convoy of tanker trucks, filled to the brim with oil, making their way to Alberta and deliver that oil to Vancouver. CleanSaskatchewan Premier Scott Moe's message to Trudeau; The future of Europe and the populist movements; The long-range picture for Alberta | The Roy Green Show Podcast - Roy talked with a clearly frustrated and angry Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan. The Premier had learned that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had stated in a year-end interview that “there is no project on the table” for resuming the Energy East pipeline. The Prime Minister when on to say that “there is clarity under the current approach, there is no support for a pipeline through Quebec.” Obviously, this sentiment does not sit well with many people, as it seems like Quebec makes the decision as far as Canada’s Prime Minister is concerned. Roy plays back his conversation with Premier Moe. The “Gilets Jaunes,” or “Yellow Vests,” continue to protest in France for the fifth weekend in a row. The protests have spread to Belgium and the Netherlands, and there is talk of unrest growing in Austria and perhaps Germany as well as the U.K. Professor Cheryl Benard is the President of ARCH International, a Washington-based non-profit research and advocacy organization with a presence in Iraq, she joins Roy to explain what is happening in Europe. Then, Professor Benard discusses the law Donald Trump has signed to protect Christians in Iraq and Syria, and MP Michelle Rempel addresses what Canada is doing for the threatened Yazidi people in Iraq. In 2001, the so-called Alberta “Firewall Letter” was delivered to then Premier Ralph Klein, urging him to stand up for Alberta against Ottawa and rid of Alberta of many federal connections. One of the letter’s signatories, Dr. Ted Morton, joins us to talk about the current state of affairs in Alberta, and Canada as a whole. Dr. David Thompson is a retired Manitoba veterinarian and a strong supporter of the Roy Green Show. Last week he reached his 100th birthday, and Roy invited him on the show to celebrate. Is this a violation of constitutional rights? The Canadian Civil Liberties Association worries the legislation will be discriminatory toward minorities. Our guest Richard Lawhern, Ph.D. Director of Research with the Alliance for the Treatment of Intractable Pain, says “There are several provable falsehoods in” in a new article from U of T magazine, ‘How The Medical System is Trying to Wean Patients Off Opioids.’ Most blatantly false is the stated position that physicians over-prescribing to their patients is in any way even related to significant elevation risk for opioid addiction or mortality. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Energy East will never proceed because “there is no support for a pipeline through Quebec.” Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe joins the show, to remind Trudeau that he is Prime Minister all Canada’s Provinces and Territories, not just Quebec. Omar Khadr is seeking changes in his bail conditions. Why didn't Khadr's lawyers appeal for full parole in 2015? Scott Newark says that Khadr was eligible for it at the time. China's state media lashes out at Canada over arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou and warns Canada of "serious consequences" with the Chinese government summoning Canadian Ambassador John McCallum. Roy talks to Canadians about the possibility of Alberta separating, following the major response to Roy's interview with Lawrence Solomon. He also replays his interview with Solomon, concerning his Financial Post column 'If Alberta turns separatist, the Rest of Canada is in big trouble.' Adam Schiff, Democrat member of Congress is quoted as saying "There's a very real prospect that on the Day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him. That he may be the first president in quite some time to face the very real prospect of jail time." AND Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said today that it would "certainly" be an impeachable offence if it's proven that President Trump directed illegal payments during his campaign." CleanAlbertan separation is no joke; Tensions at the First Ministers’ conference; Strong objections to the U.N. Compact for Migration yet Canada will sign | The Roy Green Show Podcast There are growing tensions in Montreal at the First Ministers’ conference. Brian Peckford, the former Newfoundland & Labrador Premier, gives us his view of the bitterness which exists between Ottawa and provincial capitals today. Is this the way things have always been? Later, Lawrence Solomon joins Roy to discuss what would happen if Alberta turned separatist. In a Financial Post column, Solomon argues that Alberta would have great leverage over the rest of Canada as an independent nation, regardless of being landlocked. The mood going in to the First Ministers’ conference in Montreal was not particularly positive. Multiple provinces challenged the Trudeau government on issues such as carbon tax and the lack of a proper plan for Canada's tremendous energy resources. Bill C-69 a particularly contentious issue. Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, tells Roy his takeaway from the conference. An increasing number of nations are refusing to ratify the U.N. Compact for global migration, including the United States, Australia, Austria, Hungary and Poland. Canada will sign the compact. Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer has spoken out against it. Maxime Bernier, founder and leader of the People’s Party of Canada, is also outspokenly against the compact, and he tells us why. And then Roy speaks with Professor Salim Mansur of the University of Western Ontario, who has received a great deal of attention for his views about the Compact for migration. He is concerned that Canada will become part of a borderless 21st Century world under U.N. control in which there will be no room for a free press or freedom of speech. Meanwhile, Switzerland has decided it too will not ratify the U.N. Compact on Migration. The country was supportive and was prepared to sign on, but now will instead wait for the outcome of the debates on the issue in the Swiss parliament. Luzi Stamm, Member of the Swiss parliament for the Swiss People’s Party, explains why there was this change of heart. He joins Roy to discuss our country’s military history, how Canadians impacted WWI, and the often forgotten role Canadian soldiers played in the Korean War.
