Twice monthly, psychologist and therapist Jared DeFife, Ph.D. presents insightful interviews and stories about psychology, culture, and relationships from amazing experts with great stories to tell and meaningful wisdom to share. The School of Psych podcast is less about giving "5 simple tips for a great marriage" and more about people sharing deep and heartfelt stories like "what I learned about the psychology of fear from dangling off the ledge of 1,000 ft tall building" or "how I went from a reluctant bride to counseling couples as New York's 'Wedding Doctor'", and "how my journey to learn about unrequited love and romantic obsession began after becoming obsessed with someone who didn't love me back". Along the way, we'll learn about love, life, loss, fear, anger, joy, creativity, and happiness. Authors, sociologists, psychologists, journalists, therapists, artists, and more will be asked to dig deep into their own personal passions, triumphs, heartbreaks, failures, and eureka moments to help us learn more about who we are, what we think, and how we relate. Show notes and more can be found over at http://www.schoolofpsych.com

Wonderfully interesting and accessible!
As a clinical psychologist, I know how stuffy our profession can be at times. I have to say that Jared’s podcast is anything but stuffy! He does a great job of attentively listening to and talking with his guests. He brings out the best parts of their stories. His manner is calm and unhurried AND he has a great voice for audio! :-) I look forward to future episodes.
I've listened to several psychology podcasts, and have lost interest in most of them after a few programs. Podcasting is a new art form and the genre requires specialized delivery and content. If the podcaster features himself, the program is based on a carefully drafted scrip. Podcasts inolving an interview disappoint if the guests aren't interesting, if the podcaster doesn't have excellent questions or if the podcaster inserts himself into the interview.
Thus far DeFife has had very interesting guests. His questions are so good that they tend to delight the person being interviewed, and he keeps his own stuff out of the interview.
No wonder this is so fantastic!
This is the juicy, good stuff of life and psychology that resonates with ALL of us. Jared's joy for "the story" combines perfectly with his passion for the human psyche and all its luscious, complex nuances. The good stuff that so often happens in therapy when story is shared is now out in the open! And the stories he's revealing come from psychotherapists, experts, and specialists. As professionals, here's proof we are not alone, and if we're a little crazy, we're ALL a little crazy sometimes. Jared embodies the "no shame/joy" perspective of being human. Love this!
