A classy affair

I am a collector of soundtracks and a huge fan of the “Scored to Death” book. Just as in the book, J. Blake sits down with a composer of renown and talks about their career and what makes them tick. What makes this so special is how Blake has a talent for making the conversion feel as intimate as it feels informational. A skill he has no doubly honed to perfection on the “Saturday Night Sleepover” podcast he co-hosts. However, what he does here is no mere extension of that podcast. It sure does share the same high points tho. Always engrossing, always fun and overall delightful show. People, you need to support shows like this. Ones that promote intelligence and promotes dialogue with each other.

Comprehensive podcast on movies and themes!

Blake's work here puts most other movie shows to shame, getting into film examination and criticism often through the lens of the score. He books a lot of familiar voices, which is nice, and there aren't any bad episodes for sure.

Interesting conversations

Even with composers who’s work I'm not super familiar with, each episode has been really interesting. The conversation goes deeper than just talking about individual scores and you get to understand how composers work within the industry with directors and producers as well as their methods of actually composing a score. Prepare to be on Discogs while listening to episodes tracking down scores...
