An audio-drama style retelling of a 4th Edition Legend of the Five Rings campaign. Tensions are high between the clans of Lion and Crane. As other clans seek to tug their strings, courtiers whisper of dark magic, of Bloodspeaker activity far to the west. The Togashi Empire has slipped into a time of great unrest, and it’s up to a group of unlikely samurai to band together and help restore the balance.

Avid Podcast Listener

I listen to about 5 hours of podcast everyday, and as you can imagine, I am constantly looking for new shows!

Shadows in the West is again narrative and interesting story setting. I was previously unfamiliar with the Legend of the 5 Rings system and game, but it’s easy to just listen without knowing any of the lore.

Can’t wait to see what else the players and GM have planned!

The L5R Podcast the Wolrd Needs

Initially a collection of stories transcribing the events of the games the party, the Shadows in the West is a long time coming. And every second of it was worth the wait.

As a Legend of the Five Rings podcast, SITW takes place in an alternative universe version of the base setting. Now with more mysticism, inclusion and a great emphasis on the character’s struggle to find a place to belong. The misadventures of Crow, Atsu, Daiyu, Shio and Jiro are bound to take you in an emotional rollercoaster. By the time it’ll be over, you’ll want seconds.

The quality of the audio is high and the editing performed on it has only enhanced it. Beyond this, it’s clear that the party has excellent chemistry and feels comfortable with one another. You can tell they are fan not only of each other, but of each other’s characters as well. Their voices are smooth too, and hearing them talk just wants to make you jump into the conversation too.

In the end, Shadow in the West brings a fresh view, voices and themes to the L5R podcast scene. It’s a labor of true dedication, and true talent, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Big Tabletop Podcast Fan

This has easily jumped to the top of my Thursday roster, alongside the likes of The Adventure Zone and Critical Role. I love the audiobook-style presentation and the personality of the individual characters, both the players and the NPCs, and am so excited to see them delve further into the world of Rokugan.
