Often peppered with primary resources such as 9-1-1 calls and suspect interrogation recordings, each episode introduces a new crime, and is told by the detectives who investigated it. But Yeardley and Zibby don’t just settle for the who, why, how and where of it all, they also seek to uncover the human side of their guests, offering a glimpse into the raw reality of true crime in Small Town, USA. Names, locations, and certain details have been altered to protect the privacy of the victims and their families.

Customer Reviews

hosts are annoying and should talk less & interrupt less

There is some great content here. Cases are covered in depth, recounted first hand by the members of law enforcement that actually lived them. Unfortunately, the ladies commentary is painful. It adds nothing to the podcast and is often ssuperpetually expressing shock, disgust and disapproval

True insight into Law Enforcement

After being in Law Enforcement for 27 years and having done everything from being a supervisor, SWAT, investigations, instructor and just your regular knuckle dragging street cop, I have to say that this podcast is the best I've seen that would give the average citizen an insight into what goes on in policing.
Without using police jargon (except when it is necessary, and then it is explained), Dan and Dave offer up behind the scenes insight from everything from a standard residential burglary and the steps taken in the investigation, to the more horrific crimes of murder and sexual abuse. In their recounting of the crimes, there is no sensationalism and, not only do you get to see their thought process, but by bringing in others, such as a dispatcher, or the mother of a victimor and even playing portions of the suspect interviews, the listener gets a whole view of the incident and the people it has impacted (to include the officers).
Smith and Allen, as moderators, do an excellant job of asking questions, asking for clarifications on some of the responses and in general, keep the podcast from degenerating into a bunch of war stories and cop speak.
In a culture that glorifies fast, action paced police shows, that generally end inside of an hour with the bad guy going down in a hail of bullets or being thrown behind bars because CSI found that crucial piece of evidence that saves the day, you might think that this podcst would be a bit mundane. It is not! Keep up the good work!!!

Powerfully truthful and emotional.

Being a fan of the true crime podcasts I was really looking forward to this one. Honestly, this is a difficult podcast to listen to because it is SO true, and SO hard to listen to. I found myself captivated by the details of the officers descriptions, but more so by the questions that were asked. More than anything this podcast puts the human element into the story... I found myself in tears listening to a mother describe the loss of her child and how she has dealt with grief. Episode 3 is brutal, and honest, and unimaginable...i find myself speechless. In life we try to do justice to the stories of our fellow humans' lives. This podcast captures that perfectly, no matter how hard it is to hear.
