Sober Conversations

It's all there, Herby. Thank you for this important information...

THIS is the place!

I am the father of three adult children. Each of my children has struggled with addiction to either alcohol or drugs.

I am unsure as to why it took me so many years to wonder about my play in this. Eventually I realized the right thing to do would be to hold up a mirror and take an honest a look at myself. What I discovered is the most obvious: for better or worse, my behaviors have been and still are a model for my children. My addictions became theirs. I am sure this is not always the case. I am sure this is not true for all families. But, I am sure this happens more frequently than not. What this means is that I have some degree of responsibility for their lives. The skills I had or did not have eventually present themselves. Being able to admit this now gives me strength. Being able to change my model of behavior gives me hope.

Until now I have not been able to find THE place where the numerous tentacles of addiction all have voice and platform to speak. THIS is the place! Here, in the heart and soul of this work, Sober Conversations, I can listen to mothers and fathers discuss what it is like to have children in addiction. I can listen to the wisdom of health care professionals who are dedicated to healing this society and the diseases of addiction. I can listen to the voices of addicts and their journeys into sobriety…and maybe there is nothing more important than giving voice to those who are so easily judged and condemned. “There, but for the grace of some god, go you and I…there, but for the grace...go you and I...”

It happens HERE. I applaud you. I thank you: Dr. Bell and Dr. Harrison.

Illuminating Podcast!

I cannot recommend “Sober Conversations” highly enough. It is a podcast that anyone touched by addiction (and that’s everyone) should listen to. With a cutting-edge understanding of this misunderstood disease, Dr. Bell continues to line up and interview a series of guests who help illuminate its many “dark corners.” I have been educated and inspired by listening to this podcast, and I genuinely look forward to more.
