    068 You Disappoint Me

    068 You Disappoint Me

There is a Korean expression that Koreans use to express their disappointment… or sadness. But it’s used differently from the way the words “disappointed” or “sad” are used in English. You will have a clear idea how it works once you listen to this episode. And we are also going to find out why you rarely see kids at playgrounds in Korea.
    .
Summary of the Episode: Section 1 (오늘의 한국말) = 섭섭하다; Section 2 (재미있는 한국 이야기) = 학원; Section 3 (깊은 얘기) = 직업

So happy to have found this podcast

I stumbled onto this podcast while trying to find a podcast I could listen together with my Korean immigrant mom. As a Korean-American who grew up in the US, I only spoke Korean at home (at around a first grader’s level) and my parents’ English wasn’t great. Over time it became harder and harder to connect with them due to the language and cultural barrier. Now that I’m almost 40, I’m making efforts to bridge that gap by strengthening my Korean language skills. It’s really fun listening with my mom and getting different things out of each episode. For me, it’s the listening comprehension and fun tidbits about
culture. For my mom, it’s being able to connect what she heard on the Korean episode to the English episode. Also, we marvel at how kindly and thoughtfully Jonson and Eunice speak to each other as husband and wife^^ Anyway, just wanted to note my appreciation and give some context! Thank you for being such a pleasure to listen to :)

Absolutely amazing!

I’m planning to move to Korea in about a year’s time to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, and I’ve been self-studying Korean consistently for a little over a year but my listening/speaking skills haven’t improved nearly as much as that of my reading…until now :) I was recommended this podcast and it’s actually worked wonders. It’s one thing to listen to a podcast to enhance one’s ability to understand a language, it’s another thing to genuinely enjoy it. You guys make learning so fun. Thank you! 도와주셔서 갑사합니당! ♡

Laughing AND Learning!

I love this pod! I am learning Korean for fun and I am sooo happy I found SpongeMind. Jonson and Jeremy are hilarious and they have such good chemistry as they chat about life and language learning. I also dig all of the analogies they throw into their teaching because I love a good analogy! I especially appreciate how they tackle language learning as a whole: cultural influences, pronunciation, etc. It’s so much more than memorizing vocabulary or learning grammar. I would highly recommend this pod to anyone wanting to learn Korean!
