Informative and entertaining
This is a very informative and entertaining podcast. First of all, I am enjoying a Kraken and ginger ale mixer due to having listened the rums review. The beverage reviews are often the best part of this podcast as there is equal time given to the quality and the historical context of the product. Hearing the input of a history buff such as Mr. Matthews and a home beverage crafter such as Mr. Isler is quite enjoyable. Which leads me to my second reason for rating this podcast so highly. The group bring a wide variety of backgrounds, interests and personalities to the proceedings. Finally, the interviews that the group has started doing are wonderful. I can't think of any other podcast that would have interviewed a craftsman such as Mr. Swatton in the first place, much less in as much depth.
If you are at all interested in steampunk or even just history as a living thing, please listen to this podcast.
Got to Love Them GEEKS!
Not being overly familier with The League of S.T.E.A.M. I wasn't sure what to expect from this. Luckily, the only thing carrying over from their act was their personas. I enjoyed every second of their first podcast, taking great interest in their talk about Western influnce on Steampunk. That alone gave me a vision for my own steam persona.
Thank You, S.T.E.A.M., I look forward to your next one!
Rein it in, guys!
Well, after episode 5, I'm done with this podcast. What started out as fun has turned into two-hours of the group congratulating themselves and going into the tiniest detail about setting up equipment and navel-gazing, with almost no reportage. Did it ever occur to them to report on the Wild Wild West Con event? All we know is the details of getting there, setting up and how wonderful they all are. Every subject covered takes an eternity for them to get to, after they've complimented one another and made inside jokes amongst themselves. The audio is terrible. VonFogel is a poor moderator who means well, but doesn't steer the ship in a timely fashion. And when he does have someone else speak, they are clearly so far from the mike that you can't hear what is said.
The episode on the making of the video was atrocious. Did we learn more about Steampunk? About the band? About anything? It shouldn't have been a podcast, as it was one long thank you from the band to the director and vice versa.
I think if they cinched it down to a solid hour, it would be worth listening to, but as it stands, it's a slog.
I've been tuning in so far because it's the first steampunk podcast I've come across, but after hearing these guys, I'm going sour on the LEAGUE. There's only so much patting each other on the back one can take.
