Customer Reviews

Sometimes engaging, but often exploitative.
While the cases themselves are interesting, key facts are missing or incorrect in several stories I'm familiar with. The host seems very comfortable using clinical diagnoses as insults, and frequently stigmatizes mental illness in broad, sweeping terms.
He often seems to revel in the depravity he decries. The choice to play audio of victims being tortured and killed is ethically questionable at best, and highly insensitive to the victims' families.
Hopefully the podcast improves with time, and can mature into something with more integrity.

So much potential....

...but continues to become more and more graphic-- feels like a "snuff podcast." Instead of seeking justice by exposing injustices, illuminating how some people are capable of being monsters and trying to understand how or why this is (my initial impression), the show is more and more relying on shocking people by using graphic and gory transcripts and audio files. I really enjoyed it, but am now unsubscribing due to the sensationalistic direction S&S has gone -- it now leaves me feeling disgusted for having listened. It seems that the show might be feeding the psychotic personalities it is trying to expose. This is graphic -- beyond entertainment -- and simply saying that this material is explicit and not intended for all audiences is an understatement.

Episode 43, shameful interview with rape survivor

This review is specifically for episode 43 where the host interviews a rape survivor. Horrible, insensitive questions about how long the rape lasted and whether or not the attacker “finished” inside her. All of the details came out in the trail, and I’m sure the host knew the answers before he asked. It was appalling. I was outraged at the questions. A better way to handle this would have been to do a voiceover with the information. Not ask the survivor for smarmy lurid details. Gross.
