Take Me Home is an animal & pet adoption and rescue podcast. When you're looking to add a pet into your life, consider adopting a homeless animal . When you adopt a rescued pet, you are giving an animal a second chance at a new life. You also are bringing a new family member into your home, so it's not a decision you should take lightly. It's easy to look at pictures and find a cute dog or cat. But as with people, looks aren't everything. Having a good understanding a dog or cat's personality before you adopt is an important key to selecting the right pet for you. Join host Angela Marcus as she talks to guests about some of their favorite adoptable pets. These pets might be "diamonds in the rough" that may have been overlooked, but still need a great loving home. We'll shine the light on these pets and share their personalities, quirks, and stories with you. Because each pet is an individual, we'll talk about their special needs and offer educational information so you can easily deal with common problems such as a dog that jumps on people or a cat that scratches the furniture. Like people, no pet is "perfect." But the goal of Take Me Home is to promote happy adoptions. We'll showcase wonderful pets, tell stories, and even throw some pet education into the mix. So tune in and find out why the "pet adoption option" can be a great way to add a furry companion into your life.

Take Me Home - Episode 130 Celebrating 150 years of Lifesaving Work at Women’s Animal Center – America’s First Shelter

Angela Marcus interviews Catherine Malkemes, Executive Director and Jack Griffin, Director of Shelter Services from Women’s Animal Shelter in Bensalem, PA. 2019 marks the 150th Anniversary of the Animal Sheltering and Adoptions movement in America. It began in Philadelphia in 1869. And it began with women – thirty of them to be exact, who formally joined forces on April 14, 1869 to establish Women’s Animal Center. Outraged by the cruel manner in which strays on Philadelphia streets were captured and killed, they successfully petitioned City Council to take over the municipal pound as their initial order of business, repurposing it as the first facility in the U.S. for sheltering and rehoming animals. Hear the entire story and learn about how we’re celebrating this exciting milestone - and how you can get involved.

Plus, meet Ranger – an almost senior mixed breed dog available for adoption at Women’s Animal Center. He’s a “leaner” and is looking for a couch to call his own. UPDATE: Ranger is ADOPTED!

Inspiring but also a sober reality

Angela has an easygoing nature and you can tell how much she adores animals. She relates well with her guests and has a great rapport with them. From unruly pet behavior to economic euthanasia, nothing seems to be off topic. Highly recommended for all pet owners and animal lovers.
