Great Podcast

What a great way to experience and learn more about Tolkien and his world. The podcast is laid back and informative.

Wonderful Tour Guide to Escape to Middle-Earth

For a very long time know I've known the works of J. R. R. Tokien were special. One of my earliest memories about books is carying a copy paperback copy of "The Two Towers" to preschool--even though I could not yet read it.

Somehow I got to adulthood without reading The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. I initially found Peter Jackson's movies tedious. I only came to appreciate the movies through my wife's love of them, especially the portrail of Sam.

The Lord of the Rings LCG by FFG is what finally brought me around to the books, but it has been "The Tolkien Road" podcast that has guided me to a deeper appreciation of Tokien's work.

I have been reading a chapter of "The Fellowship of the Rings", then listening to the corresponding Tokien Road podcast. Both activities have provided a much needed escape (not to be confused with escapism!). If you want to deeply appreciate Tokien's work, I highly recommend pairing the Tokien Road with your own reading of The Lord of the Rings. John's insight is supurb. It is nice that his wife Greta is on the podcast, too.

enjoyable podcast on the professor's works

I'm really enjoying this. The discussion is not quite at "Tolkien Professor" scholarship level, though it does go fairly deep. The host is just a sincere Tolkien fan who is very knowledgable and his wife who is learning from him.

After spending the last couple of years exhausting the Tolkien Professor's podcasts I was trilled to find this as I've decided to go back through the Silmarillion, if you like Tolkien and Tolkien discussion, this is definitely worth your while.
