You Can't Blame Me For This

Throughout the first episode of THE ACTION COMICS WEEKLY PODCAST, host Chad Bokelman tries several times to remind his listeners that the inspiriation for this project came from fellow podcaster Ryan Daly. Not once does he ever mention that I was joking, that it was basically a dare.

A regular index show dedicated to an anthology comic with six features per issue telling stories about twenty different named characters? And you're going to book at least one different guest for every feature? That task sounded too big, too difficult to coordinate, too crazy to manage. It was preposterous suggestion. That's why you can't blame me for this podcast...

And you also can't give me any credit for it, because Chad Bokelman took on the Herculean task all on his own. And the result is really, really good. Chad lined up an amazingly talented group of guests for this podcast, fans of the comics who, even if they don't particularly love the character they're talking about, can still bring a wealth of personal history and context for these types of adventure stories.

The Action Comics Weekly Podcast is an epic endeavor on the part of Chad and his guest hosts. It's also going to require commitment from the audience to buy in, follow along, and ride with the ongoing stories of Superman, Green Lantern, Deadman, Blackhawk, Black Canary, Nightwing and Speedy, the Demon, the Phantom Stranger, and more! But as I said, the show is really good.

I'll Never Not Listen

As I write this review, only the first episode of this podcast has aired, but I already know it is one of The Greats. You've got a great comic series: Action Comics Weekly. You've got great characters: Superman, Green Lantern, Deadman, the Blackhawks, and everyone's favorite murdering vigilante WILD DOG. You've got a great host: Chad Bokelman of the LanternCast (also a fantastic show). You've got funny, smart, insightful guests: Mark Marble, Ben Avery, Michael Bailey, Doug Zawisza, and Alan Middleton (and that's just in THE FIRST EPISODE!). All these elements converge to form the Perfect Storm of Podcasts: The Action Comics Weekly Podcast! I, for one, will never not listen.

Unless Chad does something unthinkable... like get someone other than me to talk about Wild Dog.
