One of the Best One-Woman Shows on iTunes
What THE AFTER DISASTER BROADCAST has in common with other top-tier narrative podcasts is a plot designed to hook you with the first episode: in this case, a chronicle of a post-apocalyptic America that doesn't involve zombies, nukes, and other usual suspects. (This is darn refreshing.)
But such podcasts also need to stand out from the pack. What makes this one special is the compelling performance of Ms. Ranvier as our heroine Jo. Except for a few seconds, Ranvier's is the only voice we hear. The program promises to introduce other characters--an exciting thought--but at least for now we have Ranvier and she slowly but surely draws you in. While mostly even-keeled with welcome touches of self-proclaimed weirdness, Ranvier also captures Jo's desperation, yearnings, and determination in ways that never feels overplayed. Jo is a character we root for and want to listen to for hours, and on that metric, this show is definitely worth giving a shot.
The After Disaster Broadcast
GREAT story telling. Can't wait to hear what adventures Jo is in for next.
Interesting soft reboot. Needs more Tyler, Mike, and Anderson.
