Description

The Cinematic Tangent is a casual-format podcast all about movies. Your hosts, Chad Michael Van Alstin and Bradley Redder, invite you to sit back, crack open a beer, relax, and get ready to think film. This is a talk show featuring film reviews, news, and general commentary, minus all the snobbery you typically expect from critics. These hosts are just two working-class guys who are passionate about the cinema arts, and they couldn’t keep quiet about it any longer. Give it a listen if you're tired of formalities. The Thinking Man’s Movie Podcast

If you’re looking for a fanboy podcast that just lists off and counts down what movies are coming up next, DO NOT listen to this podcast. But If you’re looking for a podcast that watches movies objectively and then discusses and analyzes their merits using, ya know, actual cinema terminology, this is the podcast for you. These guys are never scared to deliver what might be unpopular opinions, but they always back up their stances with solid points and arguments. And they’re at their best when they don’t even agree with each other. Make sure you watch whatever movie they’re discussing before the show so you can keep up.

Comfort food, delivered in audio form

After listening to only 6 shows I can say this will be in my “comfort food” lineup for podcasts on my iPhone. They won me over for their early stand against American Sniper, and pretty much somehow they magically agree with most of my movie tastes. I will forgive Chad’s blasphemous talk about most supreme leader Wes Anderson however. Perhaps he should rewatch Grand Budapest wielding his Glock and red Speedo like the rest of us, so that he may enjoy its perfection.

Wes Anderson glory discussion aside, I literally learn a new word almost every time I listen to this show they are so good at critiquing movies. This is definitely one of those moments where I realize how much I say “I loved that movie” but they dissect every aspect of why they love/hate films to degrees I can’t even fathom, yet are entertaining to listen to.

As for technical skill, as a podcaster myself I can say that they produce a very clean, even product. No amateur production style here. Each show so far (this year) has been excellent listening quality, of course forgiving the earlier Wes Anderson delusions.

Give it a shot

Witty, diabolical, and delicious.
