Stilted, but fascinating
Warning: Keep looking if you want a podcast that's smooth and professional sounding. On these, the interviewer is often very stilted in asking his or her questions, and the audio quality is often suboptimal. But, the content is almost always first-rate, especially the technology coverage. If you can look past the cosmetics, you'll be more than happy with these podcasts.
Sometimes smart, sometimes asinine
On average, the reporting as well as the basic insights of The Economist are excellent, and the podcast provides a convenient overview of the week's issues. But the more sweeping editorial statements are often laughable and shallow, throwing the entire publication into question. The 19/01/07 post on executive pay provides a nice example. The proponent of the argument, who shounds like a 9th-grader turning in an overdue book report, offers a single tired reason (it's market forces!). And the host fails to attack the position on even the most stable grounds (has anyone shown that executives earning 100X average pay do a better job than executives earning 20X average pay?). Overall, the podcast is representative of the magazine: a useful perspective, but too out-of-touch to act as a primary source for anybody's news.
Very nice short and sweet clips full of information.
