||CleanThe New Jersey Corrupt Politicians Hall of Fame!||New Jersey's got so many corrupt politicians, there's even a wikipedia page rounding them up! In the latest edition of the Jim Gearhart podcast, he's proud to welcome former Paterson Mayor Jose "Joey" Torres, who has bee sentenced him to five years in prison on corruption charges, into the New Jersey Corrupt Politicians Hall of Fame!||11/21/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanDid the God who made Mozart make Snoop Dogg?||It's an understatement to say Jim's not impressed with today's popular music. He remembers the days of Ray Charles — a man whose hearing was so acute, Jim was told upon meeting the legend, he could fly the plane he'd come in on despite being blind. And he can't imagine his music heroes inspiring the sort of violence we saw earlier this month in Howell. ||Clean'Flash of sympathy' for Craig Carton, Jim Gearhart's hated 'nemesis'||If you've been following the Jim Gearhart podcast, you know there's no love lost between the longtime New Jersey 101.5 broadcaster and one of his former peers on the WKXW lineup, Craig Carton. But this week, Jim says, thinking about Carton's alleged predicament — owing millions of dollars it would take about 22 years to pay off even if he didn't touch a dime of his salary for any other purpose — he's got a "flash of sympathy" for the indicted former radio host. ||CleanYour NJ property taxes don't need to be this high||Every election, the promise is always the same — I'll lower your taxes, every New Jersey candidate promises. They never come through. But Jim Gearhart says our taxes never had to get so high — and argues the system leaving us on the hook is flat-out unconstitutional. ||CleanOpioid crisis — How the government is helping killing thousands||Jim Gearhart was stunned when he read the conclusions of a Washington Post / CBS special report on prescription opioids — showing the government fighting the wrong side of the drug war. ||CleanElection Day grudge match — Teachers union vs. ... a Democrat?||How did one of New Jersey's most powerful Democrats wind up mortal enemies with one of New Jersey's biggest unions? Aren't they supposed to be buddies? Not only is the teachers union opposing state Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney this year, it's backing a Republican who voted for ... TRUMP. For a left-leaning organization, that's a mortal sin. ||CleanLiberals, conservatives: BACK OFF before something horrible happens||Jim Gearhart, like a lot of us, has been having trouble wrapping his head around the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas — the largest the U.S. has ever seen. Jim thought Democratic Sen. Diane Feinstein was being entirely reasonable when she said no gun law would have stopped that shooter. But he's also been thinking about the reasons people are so protective of their gun rights. And here's what it comes down to: People don't trust the government. They don't trust it to protect them from invaders. They don't trust it not to fall to an insurrection from within. They don't trust it to keep them safe in race riots, or in an economic collapse. They want to keep their families safe, and they want guns to protect them. And any of that could happen, Jim says in latest installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast.||10/13/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanNFL and the National Anthem — Why are we playing it at all?||These guys on the football field aren't there to do battle on behalf of their country. They're not there to do us proud as Americans. "I can't see the Green Bay Packer offensive line raising the flag on Iwo Jima," Jim Gearhart. And if war did break out? "My guess is that should a war break out, many of them, en masse, would transfer to the Canadian Football League," Jim says. ||CleanEruvs in NJ — Who’s trying to outsmart God?||Perhaps you’ve heard about the conflict between members of the north Jersey Orthodox Jewish community and the municipal leadership Mahwah. They’re fighting over string. Orthodox Jews can’t carry goods outside their home on the Sabbath. “God had ordained that, we are told scripturally,” Jim Gearhart says in latest installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast, available here as well on iTunes and Google Play. “But man says, ‘Well, nobody wants to sit and twiddle their thumbs and stair at the wall all day long. I have a cunning plan.'” That plan? An eruv — a symbolic border around an area of town that lets the Orthodox treat it as a private space, and carry those items that normally would have to be left behind. The Eruvim have prompted legal battles and been the subject of antisemitic vandalism. It sounds a little fishy to Jim. But maybe God doesn’t mind the loophole. “Besides, he’s getting old,” Jim says. “God is as old … as god.”||9/27/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanMaybe 'Cancer on the Radio' Craig Carton deserves compassion||It's Round 2. Perhaps, Jim Gearhart says, he could have been more charitable when he called former New Jersey 101.5 host Craig Carton "a cancer" on the station. Maybe he's more like Frankenstein's monster — he hurts people because he's incapable of love. Watch Jim talk about Carton at: http://nj1015.com/?p=730268||9/20/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanCraig Carton was a 'cancer on the radio'||Longtime New Jersey 101.5 morning host Jim Gearhart had a "singular relationship" with former New Jersey 101.5 host Craig Carton, recently arrest on federal fraud charges. "Singular" is a kind word. Jim's not foul-mouthed enough to use the words he'd really like to. Jim couldn't have been happier the day in 2007 Judi Franco told him Carton was leaving, because "this guy is a cancer on the radio station," Jim recalls in the latest installment of the Jim Gearhart podcast. Hear why here.||9/12/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanWhy Chris Christie is like the Hindenburg||"To me, there's a great deal of tragedy in both of these, because both had so much promise," Jim Gearhart says in the latest installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast. "Two very large blips on the radar of promise, both with with public appeal, a touch of glamour and what appeared to be clear sailing into historic achievements." The Hindenburg was brought down by explosive gas and an electrical storm. Christie? By his "overweening ambition," Jim says. And he mourns the loss of Christie's potential. He admired Chris Christie in the early days. All that leadership skill. All that political talent. But there's no escaping the sense that Christie abandoned the people of New Jersey to chase the presidency or national offic. And "Hell hath no fury like a New Jersey electorate scorned," Jim says.||9/6/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||Clean'Even the horse was a racist!' — Colleges are going nutty||You've all heard about the controversy over Confederate monuments. Maybe even the controversy over a New Jersey assemblyman posing for a picture with a Confederate flag. But Jim Gearhart says if you really want nutty signs of far-left political correctness, look no further than the nation's college campuses. How about across the river in Philadelphia, where Bryn Mawr College has decided to put a moratorium on using one of its founders' names to refer to a library and large hall that both carry her name — because she held racist views. Or how about on the other side of the country, where the University of Southern Californian's Trojan mascot is coming under scrutiny for having a horse almost the same name as the horse that Confederate General Robert E. Lee rode. Jim returns every Thursday with the Jim Gearhart show, available on the NJ 101.5 app, iTunes, Google Play and your favorite podcast services.||8/30/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanThe NJ governor's race — It's all a load of s---||Jim hasn't spoken much about the ongoing governor's race for New Jersey. They'll promise to lower taxes? To increase educational funding? To improve our infrastructure? To clean up Trenton? Jim and his friend Mr. Hanky know what they think of those promises.||8/23/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanFIXED: That's not Col. Sanders! Jim KNEW Col. Sanders!||Note from New Jersey 101.5: Our apologies! Last Thursday, we accidentally re-published an old episode of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast, even though we described a new one in our headline and listing. The correct episode is published here. ---You can just picture Jim Gearhart on standing before Rob Lowe in some hallowed hall of government. "Mr. Lowe, I served with Col. Sanders. I knew Col. Sanders. Col. Sanders was a friend of mine. Rob, you're no Col. Sanders." Jim's been watching TV so you don't have to. It's harder than it sounds. ||CleanFake news and dumb commercials — Why we're in real trouble||Jim Gearhart wouldn't be surprised if pesticides are making people dumber. There's no doubt external influences can wreak havoc on us. Anyone who remembers New Jersey's history with MTBE can attest to that. But it's not only chemicals we've got to worry about. It's the media we consume.||7/26/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanWhy the drug war is impossible to win||If there's a way to get the opioid epidemic under control, Jim Gearhart says, he can't imagine what it is. "The cork is out of the bottle to paradise," Jim warns. People spend their whole lives looking for peace and happiness. How do you battle with the same being delivered in bill form? That's just part of what Jim has to say in the latest installment of his podcast. Check out the full episode below to hear the rest.||7/19/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanWhen Chris Christie jumped the shark?||For Gov. Jim Florio, it was when he raised taxes on everything from toilet paper to trucks. For Christine Todd Whitman, it was the time she looked a little to happy frisking a young black man. McGreevey? He resigned amid scandal, announcing he was a "gay American." And Corzine — well, he decided to make driving in NJ even more expensive. But when did Chris Christie, with his 15 percent approval rating, jump the shark? ||Clean3 stories that prove political correctness has gone too far||If you're a regular listener of Jim Gearhart's podcast, or you enjoyed his 25-year stint leading New Jersey 101.5's morning show, we're not telling you anything new by saying he doesn't enjoy political correctness. But some stories, Jim says, are more absurd than others. "I just throw these out as a couple of examples of how we've gone stark raving damn mad," Jim says||6/28/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanThe old gang is back! Jim, Mike, Jill and ... handling mouse balls||New Jersey 101.5 couldn't have been happier to welcome Jim Gearhart back into the fold earlier this year when it debuted the new Jim Gearhart Show podcast. But he's not the only familiar voice returning on this download.Mike Lavelle, Jim's longtime partner ("nowadays you have to clarify that," Jim notes), joined this week's podcast alongside his wife, New Jersey 101.5 traffic reporter Jill Myra. It's laughs from the very start.||6/21/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanBernie Sanders, political correctness and the Antichrist||Jim was incensed — a lot of people were — when he read about Sanders' questions of Russell Vought, nominated by President Trump to be deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget. In a hearing earlier this month, Sanders suggested Vought's belief that non-Christians are condemned to hell amounted to Isamaphobia and perhaps anti-Semitism.||6/15/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanWhy I've loved good beer (and good cops) since I was 2||When Chris Christie ducked a pretty simple question by veteran columnist Paul Mulshine with a nasty swipe about drinking, it left a bad taste in Jim Gearhart's mouth. Jim's always valued Paul's advice on good beer. And he's always had an affection for good beer — one he can trace to his early childhood, when he was 2-year-old "Mouse" Gearhart.||6/9/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanIt's hard to watch the fall of Christopher J. Christie||At the onset, Jim was cheering on Governor Chris Christie as he took on the state's largest unions and changing the way the state of NJ did business. Many admired him. One re-election later, the NJ voters were ready to tar and feather him in the town square. Then it became a situaion of "dog pile on the rabbit." The sense of betrayal may be the governor's lasting legacy more than anything else. Jim also looks at the battle between President Trump and our court judges. Have we become a reality TV series for those on other planets? It sure seems that we're heading in that direction.||5/31/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanThis is why your taxes will never really get better||It's not that New Jersey politicians can't cut programs, can't cut taxes, Jim Gearhart says. Fiscally, there's no reason they can't make it happen. But politically? Lots of luck with those cuts. Jim returns every Thursday with the Jim Gearhart show, available on the NJ 101.5 app, iTunes, Google Play and your favorite podcast services.||5/24/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanYour protests do nothing. Try strategic farting instead — Jim Gearhart podcast||Jim Gearhart has never liked political correctness. "I loathe it. I abominate it. I excoriate it. I abhor it," he says in the latest edition of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast. But he finds get-in-your-face podcasts even more pointless. He's got a suggestion he's borrowing from the Russian army — if your backside can take the exposure.||5/18/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanHurting taxpayers AND NJ's poorest children||We don't need to tell you – New Jersey wastes a lot of money. But Jim Gearharts remembers what may have been the biggest waste in the state's history. In 2005, the director of the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation admitted "money was wasted" under his watch, in a short statement announcing he was stepping down. "What? Four billion dollars disappeared into thin air. ... And I guess the ruling was, well, that's normal for New Jersey."||5/11/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanPolitical Correctness is getting out of hand! (FIXED)||Editor's note: Sorry! We had a small technical glitch, and only part of Jim Gearhart's latest podcast published on 5/4. Heres the full, uncut episode. - People started laughing when political correctness first burst on the scene in the '90s. Now, all these years later, we are still dealing with it and it just keeps getting worse. But why? Why do we keep going along with it? When do we just say enough already? It seems like the old addage, "The more things change, the more they stay the same" rings true.||5/8/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanSome of NJ's best governors ... were never elected governor||New Jersey's got a lieutenant governor ... but do we really need one? Two of the state's best acting governors were never elected to the position OR to the lieutenant governor role — but were fantastic leaders for the state, Jim Gearhart argues.||4/27/2017||Free||View in iTunes|

But the election threw him for a loop: "You come up with a bombastic real estate salesman who says, often, dumb things. And on the other hand, you have an international class grifter, part of a con team who has fooled the world."||3/29/2017||Free||View in iTunes|
