Welcome to The Lonely Palette, the podcast that returns art history to the masses, one painting at a time. Each episode, host Tamar Avishai picks a painting du jour, interviews unsuspecting museum visitors in front of it, and then dives deeply into the object, the movement, the social context, and anything and everything else that will make it as neat to you as it is to her. The art history podcast we've been waiting for
Why did it take so long for the internet to get its act together and make a podcast that makes art history fun, engaging, and accessible? The episodes are clear, succinct, and beautifully produced. I really think this will appeal to people who love art and people who don't, but want to know what it's all about, without feeling like a dummy. Highly recommend!
Finally, fine art for anyone!
It's as if a kind and knowledgeable friend is leading you through the artwork. Never snooty or patronizing. The tone is warm, engaging and inclusive. For anyone who never thought they'd studied enough in school to truly understand art, these podcasts connect you to the work and the real people and times behind them. Honest and funny. The musical excerpts are wonderful, too.
Perfect for me
I love visual art, but don't have an academic background in it. It can be really hard to find books or podcasts that aren't either so basic that I'm bored or so "insidery" that I can't get interested. The Lonely Palette is perfect -- very accessible, but loaded with information that gets me thinking. The host is fabulous. She clearly knows her stuff, but is more interested in bringing the audience in than lecturing. Super engaging. Highly recommended.
