Books Help Teach Us How To Live

“Our stories, both real and imagined, anchor us to all of human experience,” Donalyn Miller, episode one, The Nerdy Bookcast. What a gift to “the people of the book,” in this case teachers, librarians, children’s authors and booksellers, to have a weekly podcast about stories brought to us by the minds behind The Nerdy Book Club and The Teacher Learning Sessions. If you have a role in putting great books into the hands of kids, you must subscribe. You will find no one with a finger more on the pulse of both what’s best in books and in education than the folks at The Nerdy Bookcast.

One of the gifts of teaching in the 21st century is the opportunity for connection. Personalized Learning Networks (PLNs) provide a continuous stream of connection, inspiration, and resource. Twitter, blogs, and now podcasts allow us to curate our own learning like never before. In addition to The Yarn and The Book Love Foundation Podcast, if you value children and books, be sure to add The Nerdy Bookcast to your weekly listening.

Treasure trove for readers and teachers

I loved hearing from the different authors and their discussions about their struggles as writers to tell the tough stories in order to help children understand the world-wide impact of the tragedy on 9/11.

Can't Wait for More!

An amazing collection to start what promises to be an incredible podcast. As a lover of books and a middle school reading teacher, there are few communities more powerful, relevant, and useful than Nerdy Book Club. I was overjoyed to hear about this project and the insight, reflection, and ideas Donalyn Miller and Coby Sharp bring to the table along with their writer, reader, and teacher collaborators are top notch. Not only are these episodes eye-opening for me as a reading teacher, but I also look forward to sharing with my class. Thrilled to see all the brilliance yet to come - an incredible endeavor indeed!
