Person First Language

As a Peer Specialist (I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety) I find the use of person first language much more empowering for me. But I do respect and support self determination and choice for people to choose how they want to talk about themselves. I would never refer to a person as a schizophrenic. Instead - a person diagnosed with schizophrenia. Key being "diagnosis" is an OPINION. That person has a choice of another opinion, there own opinion in context of their experience. Has to do with empowerment and power over.
