No jingles, no regular features, just effortless brilliance

It's your living room on a lazy Saturday and a couple unassuming guys are chatting about technology. This wouldn't be anything too special if the these guys weren't brilliant. Gruber and Benjamin's casual style emulates regular conversation, but without excessive inside jokes or wasted time, and you always come away with some new, truly useful information.

Awkward, Funny, and Thoroughly Enjoyable!

A long time reader of Daring Fireball, and a newcomer to Dan Benjamin, this podcast is funny, informative, and just a pleasure to listen to. Many complain about the production value, the awkward pauses, and the abrupt endings - but they all contributes to the feel of this podcast, and thery are the "flaws" that keep it unique, and even more funny. I think the editing is just where it should be, and the sponsor rambles are hilarious, while getting the job done. Anyone that that loves technology, or just wants to hear two very well informed and articulate speakers talk about the latest gadgets, tools, and techniques - while occassionally hilariously battling each other over issues like profanity - should definitely subscribe and listen. Well worth your time.

Could be better

John Gruber is Thomás de Torquemada to Paul Thurott's Don Quixote when it comes to thoughtful and authoritative commentary on technology. The world of Apple would be a cold and vulnerable place without his insightful observations. That being said, the podcast is underwhelming due to it's subpar production values and planning. It doesn't follow a coherent structure like some of the more established podcasts and radio shows do. There is lots of dead air, "uhms" and "uhs," off-topic remarks that stretch for a long time, and other minor, annoying things which could be hopefully fixed in future episodes. With so much competition in the podcasting sphere, a single bad episode could make or break your show. I understand that neither of hosts have had careers in radio, but they should make some effort and plan ahead of episodes to make it more engaging. Conceptually, this is a 5-star podcast, but based on its execution it gets 3 stars.
