I'm talking about family, a reflection on my time at Atlanta TRACON, a few personal stories and experiences, but most of all explaining life balance. On today's episode it's just me. Ryan Campbell: "Born To Fly"

    Ryan Campbell: "Born To Fly"

At age 19, after spending two years planning, training, and fundraising over a quarter of a million dollars, Ryan successfully flew solo around the world. This expedition broke the world record for the youngest pilot and first teenager to circumnavigate the globe solo in a single engine airplane. 24,000 nautical miles, 35 destinations, and 15 countries providing some profound life lessons. Although Ryan’s world flight brought its own brand of adversity, the true test would come just two years later. A normal day at work turned into anyone’s worst nightmare. A plane crash that occurred after liftoff left Ryan in the hospital, fighting for his life. Six months of hospitalization, over a year-and-a-half in rehabilitation, and the ongoing struggles of living with a spinal injury transformed Ryan into a different person. “I may have lost out physically, but I gained mentally in ways I never knew possible.”

Suffers from the same problem most other podcasts do

On the right track for subject matter as there are almost no good and consistent aviation podcasts but this one has the same shortcomings most others do which is simply a massive lack of content. Interviewing someone about the Aeroshell Aerobatic team for 40 minutes is gonna get you the same level of understanding as watching a 15 minute YouTube video. People want a long form discussion. If you talk to a person you’ve never met for 40 minutes you aren’t getting to know them. You are learning their name and maybe a little about their background but to try to cover such an in depth topic in an interesting way is going to require an actual conversation. You need to be a skilled interviewer because sometimes when people have done something all their life they don’t necessarily know what is interesting to new people to someone who hasn’t done it or sometimes they’re just not very good at talking because they’ve spent their life learning a skill so you as an interviewer have to learn to pull good material out of them.

Powerful

So moved by the vulnerability and transparency in the most recent episode. Thank you Rob and Derek for stepping into challenging space to have these hard conversations. Prayerful that your dialogue will lead to further heart change in myself and other subscribers.
