Infectious Enthusiasm

I know almost nothing about watches, but I recently bought a vintage mechanical watch on a whim and thought it would be fun to learn more, so I typed in "watch podcast" into the iTunes store and ended up here by chance. My first impression, based around a blast of jargon ("SK3103 lumed bezel mod" etc) was "OK, not for me, I'm in over my head" but the hosts seemed fun, so I stuck around a bit longer and I'm glad I did...totally hooked now.

The two hosts (Kaz and Mike) have a fun, accessible take on watch nerddom. They're both knowledgeable but also still very much in the process of developing their own expertise and collections, so there's a cool feeling of like, both learning from them and learning along with them. They also have a good dynamic - Kaz is the super enthusiastic friend you had in high school who convinced you to do one more shot then sneak onto the miniature golf course at midnight. Mike is more calm and thoughtful, with maybe a larger knowledge base. Classic Kirk/Spock dichotomy.

Another thing I love about the show is that while they both occasionally drool over crazy expensive watches, neither of them is buying Rolexes left and right. They're normal broke-ish guys who have a healthy skepticism towards the "rich man of the world" type marketing that goes with most luxury watches.

My only slight complaint is that sometimes the show is mixed kinda low in volume, making it hard to hear in a loud environment. But NBD.

To sum up: entertaining podcast, learned a lot already, already looking for my first Raketa. Five stars.

Blamo

They play roles. Give it up for tbws. Cool as a cucumber, sharp as a whip.

The best horological content

Mike and Kaz are very passionate and knowledgeable about horology, but it is their down-to-earth and laid back approach that makes this podcast really great.

It can be hard to find horological content that is not snooty or pretentious. TBWS is the antithesis of your average cork-sniffing style content. It is a podcast for the everyday person that can’t afford a Richard Mille but still enjoys a quality and affordable timepiece.
