Moving Beyond Shame

Rima, thank you so much for considering my request and covering the topic of Shame in your most recent episode (303). I really appreciated the structure and flow of this episode, starting with defining Shame, the subjective experience of shame, and then lastly, how we can move beyond Shame (with a capital S).

I really resonated with this idea that we're often unable to recognize Shame as one part of us, and instead internalize the Shame and allow it to define the 'whole' of us. I've been exploring Shame in my own individual therapy, creating awareness of where it lives in my body, uncovering the origin of the Shame, and lovingly cultivating compassion for that part.

I've also noticed, and you touched on this briefly, the ways that untreated and unconscious shame can trigger self-destructive behavior, that we, in turn, shame ourselves for later. It becomes this vicious cycle and perpetuates this never ending chain of Shame!! This episode helped me gain a better understanding of the Shaming process, how to recognize Shame in the present moment and how to cultivate compassion so I don't continue to hurt myself!

Thank you Rima. I'm loving this Mental Clarity season! <3
