Great Podcast

Great podcast. Lots of great info regarding Japanese gaming news/sales/releases. As an added bonus it will warm the hearts of any old Gamefan/Play magazine readers. Definitely give it a listen. My one and only complaint: uneven sound levels. Can't wait for the next episode.

One of a kind gaming podcast for hardcore gamers

Nice for a change to NOT hear Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2 or another big name, mainstream game mentioned. Lots of talk about a lot of great games that go unnoticed by the majority of gamers.

Import game fans, look no further

This is not the podcast for you if you're looking for updates on the latest installment of Halo or God of War. This podcast is laser-focused on the Japanese console gaming and import market, and if that's your area of interest there are few (if any) better resources. The panelists are all ex-writers for Play Magazine, which had a similar focus.

They monitor Japanese gaming news to track new and upcoming releases, they import and extensively play games that may never see the light of day in the U.S., and generally maintain a level of immersion in Japanese culture that is rare these days on this side of the Pacific. In short, these guys live for this stuff. That's a double-edged sword, as their heated discussions on the nuances of games can sometimes run long. Those hoping for a quick summary of the week's news may well be disappointed. But if you can't afford to actually import all the games being discussed (and who can?) the detailed reviews will help you make informed purchase decisions.

As a former hardcore gamer (who sadly no longer has sufficient time for the hobby) I'm glad to have WAHP. It's a great way to keep tabs on Japanese gems that might otherwise fall unnoticed into obscurity.

Disclosure: I'm a friend of Shidoshi's (editor/panelist for the podcast).
