Bridging the Gap

First off, this is a great podcast that stands out to me above all others. I really feel like I’m part of the conversation vs. listening to a podcast. I feel like I’m sitting with a couple fellow veterans and having a conversation.

In the latest podcast, the guest and host both asked how to bridge the gap between older veterans (Vietnam era) and younger veterans (post 9/11). I believe to appeal to the younger veterans is showing them what they gain. A once a month meeting and coupons for a restaurant we don’t eat at too often isn’t much motivation. The younger crowds know when they go to the VFW they will be the youngest one there and will have a hard time relating to the older veterans (different wars and different politics).

Also, I believe it’s a question of pride. Veterans are always willing to help each other out but one asking for help or even recognizing he/she needs help is a problem. We’re used to the concept of pull your own weight and don’t complain or you’re weak. There needs to be some kind of training to undo that.

The Insights are Great!

A great part One. Loved the insights to this great story. Each one of us has a story in how we ended up where we are today. Jimmy brings a great story in how he preapred for the corps and why. He made some very hard decisions at a young age. Inspiring story because this reminds me of me when i was at my first unit with a chip on my shoulder. Life was not easy. Jimmy's story is how things happen sometimes. Semper Gumby. Even while deployed sometimes we end up in situations that we had no idea would ever come our way...But they do! His story explains alot about why he is the way he is. Always ready to help or teach someone something. He fights the fights for all...and so things could be better for veterans. That is Jimmy! He is the type that leaves a place in better shape then how he received it. Not only does he spread the word but fights for resources for future veterans. Cant wait till part TWO!

Listen Now!

Lots of great information. Entertaining and infromative guests. Can't wait for the next show.
