A new fave

I was led to this podcast by the esteemed screenwriting pod, Scriptnotes. I love You Had Us At Hello for a lot of the same reasons. As someone who is not a writer but simply a film buff, hearing folks who work on scripts for a living discuss and analyze them has enhanced my own ability to appreciate the nuance and craft behind the writing. As for the hosts, Tess Morris is exceptionally charming and British with an almost manic enthusiasm for romcoms, while Billy Mernit provides a great foil by being no less passionate about the topic but perhaps a bit more even keel and focused on the planned talking points. However, my favorite moments, much like Scriptnotes, occur when the hosts allow the conversation to drift hither and thither, like old friends just chatting. Those who appreciate rigid, lecture-like structure may be a little disappointed, but for those like me who simply want to hear knowledgeable and entertaining people discuss an interest we share with them, this podcast goes down real easy. Cheers Tess and Billy!

Romcom Heaven!

This is such a fun, insightful, brilliant and inspiring podcast. I'm so happy every time it's updated. The recent episode about Favorite Female Characters and Favorite Female Screenwriters was outstanding. The episode discussing and dissecting 'Her' was so fantastic. Will there be a whole episode on 80s romcoms? Or underrated romcoms? My only complaint is that I wish there were more episodes. Huge kudos on a wonderful show with two very smart and witty hosts.

Stop by for the romcoms, stay for the repartee

If I was writing a screenplay, I'd tee up Tess Morris and Billy Mernit for some crazy meet cute because these two powerhouses of romcom-ery (it could be a word!) were so meant to meet and create this podcast. For bonafides. So few writers truly get the heart of romcoms and refuse to declare their demise like Tess and Billy. They call out the crap in the genre and delight in the well-written gems that fans want to see more of. Cue up YOU HAD US AT HELLO and be among friends who only want the best for romcoms.
