Left or Right, this program digs at relevant issues...
Every show slants to the left or the right, it's up to us to watch both sides. After watching both FOX NEWS and other conservative channels, I prefer to watch DN because of it's absence of sensationalism. DN gets to the point and digs into details with facts to back up their reports. I may not agree with all of their views or their slant to the left at times, but I do respect their emphasis on details and facts. Not every show is a gem, but most shows inspire me to pay more attention to the culture of corruption in U.S. and world politics. It's made me swear to exercise my right to vote in every election.
Unusually good journalism
"U.S News", in this day and age, is an oxymoron. Democracy Now! is now my ONLY CONSISTENT source of news. Why ? Because I am the odd conservative who believes that the Bush agenda has usurped even MY basic right to a freeflow of information in favor of the agenda of the administration's greedy friends. We are living in indecent times and I believe that Amy Goodman's work is one of the very few opportunities that this country will once again rise to represent the values of the general population and not that of a few crazies who have hijacked the oval office.
If you're interested in news, this one is mandatory.
Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect. Sometimes they have a tendency to confuse lack of gun fire with peace, or some of the people interviewed seem to have a child-like naivete about what is or isn't achievable, and why... ...but political orientation aside, compared to Fox News or CNN, this is like comparing a University course with two Kindergarden fairytale programs. Here's what you need to stay informed: Democracy Now!, BBC World News, World Press Review, The Economist, Foreign Affairs, National Geographic and Scientific American. Then look for contradictions, read/listen between the lines, and piece the puzzle together. (It may help if you first shed your naivete by reading a few books like e.g. "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man"). You will no longer look at the world with the same eyes. Of these, only the first two are easily accessibly by podCast or TV, the rest require reading, and even more time. That increases the importance, because lots of people just don't have the time do have an extensive news reading regime going.
