Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce, a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

It's 1980's DC Comics back again.....

Where is the fake (decent sized) afro? He was supposed to wear one. From the original cartoon justice league character, to the comic (which I did not think was too bad), to the sadly all too brief appeance on young justice (season 2, minus the afro or any hair for that matter) to now, how this character has endured is something impressive. He and Luke Cage have had appearces altered, stories changed, and they still endure. To all the cast and crew from an (half white -/- hispanic) Army Veteran good luck and please CW blow it with this show.

Amazing! One of the best show Pilots I’ve ever seen

A tight pilot with solid acting

As a white nerd, I found this enjoyable and challenging. The struggle to succeed in normal life when the environment is so hostile makes me wish for the best. And the excuse to become a vigilante is compelling. The turnabout of seeing a white top villain and a white sidekick with the rest of the cast black is the reverse of what I’ve seen in so many other shows. Here’s hoping this increases empathy in the world. I found the performances by the actresses particularly compelling. Looking forward to more.
