Cory (Ben Savage) is your average middle schooler. His best friend Shawn (Rider Strong) is from the other side of the tracks, his teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) constantly keeps him on his toes, and he rarely understands his childhood friend Topanga (Danielle Fishel). But with the support of his parents and his brother Eric (Will Friedle), Cory learns to cope with the roller coaster called growing up.
Everything is different when Cory, Shawn and Topanga reach high school and college. Cory’s childhood annoyance with Topanga turns to young-adult romance. While his family goes through many changes – some great, some not -- they always comes together when they need to most. Shawn’s life turns upside down and he moves from home to home, trying to figure out who he wants to be. When her parents announce that they’re separating, Topanga’s guilt and exasperation affects her relationship with Cory, and she breaks their engagement. Determined to ease Topanga’s suffering as well as get her down the aisle, Cory sets out with Shawn, who is also confounded by his on-again, off-again girlfriend Angela’s (Trina McGee-Davis) romantic roadblocks, to win back their love and faith.
