Josh Gates, an archaeologist and inductee into the prestigious Explorers Club (an organization dedicated to the advancement of exploration and field research), invites viewers on one man’s search for the truth while he investigates stories of the unexplained across the globe. Gates and his small crew of production buddies visit different international destinations alleged to be the home of a notorious cryptozoological mystery, including the Worm Monster of Iceland and the Loch Ness Monster-like creature lurking in a Japanese lake. Gates searches for evidence to prove or debunk these stories by talking to witnesses and experts and immersing himself in the local culture.

Arriving in the capital city of Port Moresby, Josh meets an anthropology professor who provides photos of the bones thought to be the remains of an Iguanodon. After traveling 495 miles to Tinganavudu and recovering from the local tribe's initiation, Josh discovers that the local who found the skeletal remains from the photos had already sold the bones. Josh and his crew then head to the location of the sightings and surround the area with infrared cameras in the hope of catching some glimpse of the creature. Before returning to the U.S., Josh investigates a second local legend, of a mermaid-like creature called the Ri, which has been reported in the waters off the island of New Ireland.||43:35||$1.99||View in iTunes|

After a dubious capture of a wayward ghost, Josh visits the cemetery believed to be the area's most haunted location. Josh sets up thermal-imaging cameras and a microphone in the cemetery's crematorium. The microphone does pick up a terrifying scraping noise but the cameras do not turn up any ghostly evidence. Convinced they've gotten all the evidence they can, Josh and his team break camp and send the audio evidence to a forensics lab in California. In the meantime, they remain in Northeast Thailand to investigate the legend of the Naga, a serpentine creature said to inhabit the waters of the Mekong River on the border with Laos. Then Josh returns to the U.S. to follow up on the ghost evidence.||43:35||$1.99||View in iTunes|

Meeting with a couple of witnesses, Josh then meets with a villager, Max, who offers to take him to the cave thought to be the Ropen's home. After finding a human bone fragment and droppings too big to be from bats, Josh and the crew set up surveillance cameras outside the cave's opening. During the night, the team captures footage of a glowing orb in the sky and Josh returns to the U.S. to have forensics experts review the video. Josh then turns his attention to the legend of El Chupacabra in Chile. Upon arrival in Santiago, Chile, Josh interviews witnesses who claim to have seen El Chupacabra. They describe it as a three-foot tall creature with coarse hair, leathery skin and glowing red eyes.||43:36||$1.99||View in iTunes|

As darkness falls, the guides leave the jungle from fear and the crew sets up surveillance cameras while Josh treks deeper into the jungle in search of more evidence. Josh decides to return to the U.S. to have the growl recording and footprint cast analyzed. Josh next heads to Buenos Aires, Argentina where a sea serpent-like Nahuelito has been attracting Loch Ness level attention due to numerous sightings. When a local cinematographer's video of the creature turns out to be less than convincing, Josh resolves to get a closer look by heading to Nahuel Hupai Lake which is thought to be the home of the Nahuelito.||43:36||$1.99||View in iTunes|

The Mamlambo, which is said to have the head of a horse, is alleged to have killed seven people, spurring the formation of a task force to hunt it down. After reaching Durban, Josh and the team head for the Mzintlava River, home of the Mamlambo. While setting up camp, a tornado appears to be forming and they must take cover until the next day. During the night, that camera is bumped violently by something below the surface but no additional evidence of the Mamlambo is found. Josh ships the footage back to the U.S. for analysis and returns to Durban to look for another South African legend, that of the Tokeloshe, a ghostly, monkey-like creature that gained notoriety when several accused murderers testified that they thought they'd encountered the beast.||43:14||$1.99||View in iTunes|

Josh then visits a priest who has baptized hundreds of seventh sons who points Josh toward a few of these subjects and also directs Josh to a man who possesses DNA evidence in the form of a blood-caked rope allegedly used to lasso the creature. Josh buys the rope and sends it back to the U.S. for analysis. Josh then makes his way to a small village where the Lobizon has been seen recently and where Oman, an un-baptized seventh son, lives. That night he sets up surveillance cameras, raw meat as bait and positions Oman in a chair as the full moon rises over the horizon. Once Josh decides they have gathered all available evidence and they head back to Corri Entes to investigate sightings of another creature; a Dwarf-like creature called the Pombero.||43:36||$1.99||View in iTunes|

Best monster show out there
While the crew may only be 90% as scientific as some other shows. They are definitely more realistic than any other show. Josh is obviously on a quest to die in splendid fashion as he sets out to do everything the locals warn him against in every episode. The entertainment value is phenomenal. The evidence they find is actually compelling. This is THE BEST paranormal show out there. If they can keep from being killed by snakes, crocodiles, tigers or hippos the show should have many more seasons. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THIS SHOW! Disregard the bad labeling of the episodes and just watch it. All of the episodes are entertaining.
Oh, how I love this show! It truly is extraordinary. Josh Gates is a genius! He is so quick in assessing the situation, adept at speaking with people on all levels and his sense of humor is unparalleled! He brings to the screen subjects I never new existed, much less know they were of debate. It is a refreshing and thoroughly saturating show that does not leave you wondering if the subject matter was only partially investigated; thereby, leaving you unfulfilled. You feel as if you were actually there with he and his crew, in places you have never discovered before. The show really takes you to the outer limits, as opposed to the same old sites that have been exhaustively researched until they have been diluted to the point of extinguished interest. I was really beginning to get nervous when I never heard word nor saw sight of a new season. I am so glad they have filmed an additional season and hope they do so, year after year, for years to come. Thank you for such an entertaining show that leaves you with food for thought and something for the imagination. And I can view it anytime I want to!
One of the best shows on TV. A docu comedy that comes through where others fall short. Josh manages to make jokes without disrespecting the people or subject matter. Even if you don't believe in any of this stuff, this is a must see. At least credit them with going to the ends of the earth to try to prove or disprove these myths.
