Description
Endgame is an original drama series centering on a brilliant chess master Arkady Balagan. Traumatized by the murder of his fiancée, Balagan has become a prisoner in his luxury Vancouver hotel, terrified to step outside. To pay his bill, Balagan starts solving mysteries – using an unlikely band of hotel employees and chess fanatics to do his legwork. Arrogant, brilliant and charismatic, the Russian-born Balagan uses the skilsl that made him chess champion of the world to solve the crimes that mystify others. He imagines events, interviews the living and the dead, and runs conflicting scenarios – all in his head. And we get to watch right along with him as he solves crimes that baffle the police. In Endgame, we see genius at work.

This is a daring escape from the mindless TV that has been plaguing modern day airwaves; and a very welcome one at that. Set in Vancouver this is a uniquely stylized show that is cast, shot, and written unlike anything in production before. There is a creativity about the show, from the bouts of seriousness and reality to the humorous mind-scenesf that will remind you that the world is not all drama all the time -- a refreshing spin from your typical detective dramas. Shawn Doyle's portrayal of Arkady is spot on, and he truly sells the role. The rest of the supporting cast is superb with the exception of Gallagher (Hugo) -- I can't say this is bad acting but more of a character fit for the show -- though even Gallagher seems to portray the character as written. I think anyone renting this show will be pleasantly surprised both in the quality of the show for its mindful entertainment and the time when you suddenly realize you have watched the entire season in one sitting. Do not pass this one up!

If you like shows like Monk which make you think rather than just mindless action you should love this detective show.

This is a great show to watch. Its funny and addicting. You'll just fall in love with the characters! Buy this series! You won't regret it. The mysteries and the way it's filmed is fantastic!
