Its cool to like vampires and werewolfs again....
I know the premise sounds stupid. A vampire, a ghost, and a werewolf living together - it sounds like the beginning of a really bad joke. But this show is AMAZING. The writing is good, the performances are amazing, and by the end of the season you just want more. The chemistry between the three main characters is incredible. My favorite character is George (the werewolf) - his arc over the entire season is very compelling. This is not one of those oh-vampires-are-all-popular-becuase-of-Twilight-let's-jump-on-the-band-wagon shows...it is dark, dramatic, funny, and real all at once. It is by far my favorite new show of the year and I can't wait for series two. Vampires and werewolfs are not just for teenage girls anymore; this show makes them cool again.
Saw this show through some twists, turns and begging and it's worth seeing. In addition to being "monsters" the characters of Being Human, are *characters*. You might not always like how they are as people or the choices they make (in fact, some of who they are and what they do can be quite annoying) but, for what the series is, they are well thought-out and well-realized. Although it can be a bit cheeseball in terms of plot-logic, in spots. It has some fine and poignant moments. Watching it is by no means a bad use of a free hour.
I, sad to say, have grown rather bored with all the vampire and werewolf stuff as of late. It all just seems so... eh, well... waaaay over done. This show is hilarious in places and dramatic enough to make you actually feel for the characters themselves in others. Each of the three main characters is trying to find a place in the world, to retain their humanity so to speak and they sort of found each other in the process. A family of sorts. What worries me the most about this show is the long term, good writers will help I'm sure... I just hope it doesn't fall into the Twilight and True Blood trap and stay its own quirky self.
Otherwise, I found this show refreshing and it has a bit of heart wrapped in there. I love the Annie character. :p
