Different But Good

Four out of five stars from this Stargate fan, who has been watching the show since it was on Showtime. Like most Stargate fans, at first I held animosity towards the new cast. It's not so much that I don't like the new actors as much as I just was so attached to Richard Dean Anderson and Don S. Davis. But after a few episodes, you begin to like them. Claudia Black in particular is terrific, as usual she does a wonderful job delivering fine performances. One concern I had was with the story- I was concerned it would be a templated, typical "new, big bad enemy threatens the galaxy and so we must make unusual allies to fight etc." But it's actually quite good. The Ori are a refreshingly well written foe, who present a challenge to Earth and the newly established Jaffa Nation. They also serve to expand on the Anients story and tells us about the connection between the Ancients and the Ori.

One difference between Season 9 and previous seasons is that it is one, long on-going story arc, with basically secondary or auxiliary story threads woven into the main storyline. As opposed to previous seasons, where it was more like each episode was a different, independent story. Because of this you can't really just pick an episode and jump in, like you could in other seasons. Parts of the story and important character development happens sequentally over the season, so you pretty much have to start at the beginning and go in order. Thankfully, it's worth it, as this is a very well written and entertaining season.

Holy. Freaking. God.

I am a HUGE fan of Stargate SG-1, and I must say, this season surprised me. The Ori are FREAKY. It's filled with action, adventure, the amazing supervillains that are the Ori, oh and of course - the SUPERGATE. Get it.

A Richer Storyline

Season 9 is great! After the first few episodes I started to get used to the new characters (Vala, Gen. Landry and his daughter, Mitchell) Its not the same chemistry as before but its just as interesting. The storyline has gotten much more complex and interesting with the Ori and the free Jaffa. More things to boggle the mind! Ben Browder's done a great job and the rest of the crew are as good as ever!
