When Fireman Sam single-handedly saves his brother Charlie from a disaster at the Pontypandy lighthouse he is awarded a special bravery medal, and offered an exciting new job in Newtown by visiting Chief Fire Officer Boyce. Sam mulls Boyce’s offer over and the prospect of leaving Pontypandy for good. Meanwhile Trevor takes the Pontypandy Pioneer scouts on a camping trip. It’s very hot and Sam warns them not to start camp fires. Norman and Cousin Derek have other ideas as they avoid Trevor’s forest food by cooking some sausages. Soon a huge forest fire threatens to engulf Pontypandy and the townsfolk gather at the fire station and prepare to evacuate. Luckily Fireman Sam knows what to do and the town rallies together to save the day. Elvis shows extraordinary bravery and receives a medal of his very own. Sam, having nearly lost his beloved town, realises that he can’t possibly leave and hands Chief Fire Officer Boyce back his contract. He will always be Pontypandy’s hero next door.
