A genetics professor. A hospice nurse. A single mom. A street cop. A small town cheerleader. A tormented artist. A computer geek. From places as divergent as Tokyo, India, New York City and Odessa, Texas — they appear to be ordinary people. But they're beginning to find out they're not like everyone else. In fact, they're meant for something much more... Heroes tells the fascinating story of people discovering remarkable abilities — to transport through time and space, to hear another's thoughts, to be physically indestructible, to paint the future. Each must contend with their unique power. And as they struggle to make sense of what and why all this is happening, destiny will ultimately bring them together to change our world.

Surprise Hit- Not Just for fans of Sci-Fi

NBC's HEROES is one of the biggest surprises this season. Certainly any show in the comic-book genre runs the risk of becoming hokey but HEROES wisely focuses on character development rather than outrageous special effects. It is from the characters that HEROES derives it's strength as a potential hit show. When the ads began appearing on billboards and television commercials, I was skeptical of what might be considered a cheap rip-off of Marvel's X-Men graphic series. The comparison is valid as the show does deals with the advent of genetic anomalies as the causal factor of the various superpowers. The show, also like the comic series, presents the story as a multicharacter drama reminiscent of author Stephen King's earlier works such as The Stand. By the end of the third episode there are nine characters with abilities, not to mention several major characters that do not have any revealed powers. Despite, or because of, the similarities to previous works HEROES is perhaps the best new show this season. One of the most engaging elements of the story is the fact that none of the characters are truly heroes yet. In fact most of them are quite the opposite. They are for the most part mediocre people without the honor and moral integrity to be true heroes. Heroic events have thus far been largely accidental. Characters have been portrayed as unambitious, foolish, self-serving, frustrated, and fragile. Some characters are even guilty of murder, fraud, and drug addiction. The drama hangs on the mystery of how such people become the heroes we expect them to be in the future. Unanswered questions keep any good drama interesting. HEROES has more than a few. The individual stories provide plenty of mystery. How do they learn to control and use their powers? How do they keep their powers a secret? Who are these evil "heroes"? These are just a couple of questions audiences must wait to have answered. Though the biggest and most anticipated event is how these characters around the world will be drawn together by their destinies. HEROES is certainly not only for fans of Sci-Fi. Those, like myself, wary of most network television fare can find welcome relief in this rare find of quality storytelling. Thank you to Tim Kring and NBC for bringing this show to our Monday nights.

One word: Awesome

This show is by far one of the best shows I have seen on TV in years. If you have any interest at all in comic book or super heroes you will love this show. Even if you have never read a comic book you will love it. I recommend this show to everyone.

i've been waiting to see this show for awhile. as a comic book reader, the show obviously had me intrigued with its talk of people with "super powers" and "greater callings". so, finally it's here, and i was not let down in any way. everything was amazing - the directing, music, story, acting. it all fit together so well, to create this awesome atmosphere and feel which (in my opinion) is so hard to find in TV shows. watch as seemingly normal people begin to discover that they have unbelievable abilities, and learn to embrace them and come together to save and change our world. to find an epic of this size on regular TV is exciting. and for those of us who have work and will have the misfortune of missing every single episode when it airs (or just for those who love the show and want it on their ipods), we'll have the comfort of downloading it and watching it whenever - and as much as like - we want. i couldn't ask for more.
