From executive producer Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) and the creative forces behind Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess comes this new first-run, live-action series based on Terry Goodkind’s bestselling epic fantasy series of books. The series follows the extraordinary transformation of woodsman Richard Cypher into a magical leader who joins with a mysterious, beautiful woman to stop a bloodthirsty, sinister tyrant. Goodkind’s popular books in his series The Sword of Truth are international bestsellers that have been translated into over 20 languages. Goodkind’s first installment, Wizard’s First Rule, was published in 1994 and 10 additional titles have subsequently been released.

Dont let this go the way of Firefly!!!

I dont want to see another great show die. Support this show! We need more Sci-fi Fantasy on TV!

so far so good...

it won't be like the books. this is a syndicated tv series... this is being made for the masses... perhaps this is what people mean when they call goodkind a sell out. an hbo or showtime series may have been more fitting for all the grimy little details and the strict chronology. as a syndication, we're gonna get the first few series as close as possible to the first book and then a loosely chronological bunch of standalone episodes. i'm guessing of course but from the interviews, that's what seems to be happening. my approach is simple as a big fan of the series: this is, when all is said and done, still a sword of truth production and quite frankly i've wanted anything like this for the longest time so i'm not about to be ungrateful. i already beneffited of having read the books and really taking it all in... i'm willing to accept the liberties being taken. so far, it looks great. i still think it'll be revealed later that zedd is his grandfather. wizard's first rule was exceptionally good at springing secrets on you... it's part of why that first one is still the best of the whole bunch (although temple of winds and blood of the fold certainly come close). people are upset about richard not being raised by zedd but you know, the obi wan thing works and that's probably why raimi decided to make zedd the mysterious hermit who has, unbeknownst to all, been watching over richard. it can still very well be revealed that he's his grandfather and the plot isn't damaged at all. i think we, as fans of the books, can be a little more lenient about this, don't you think? :)

The Truth

Now to give a fair review both to the people reading this and to the creators of the show I will pretend that I have never read Mr. Goodkind’s novels. Legend of the Seeker is beautiful especially considering its just aired the first two episodes back to back. The creators put together a wonderful look for the series, the on location filming was amazing and special effects were only used when necessary for effect, story and scenery. I believe they held back from being too flashy which I believe was the right thing to do. I find that the plot is unique and makes me want to see more, because I want see what they do differently, and to see who appears in the new story and who they cut out. I believe that fan’s of Mr. Goodkind should watch the series even if they do something differently, no especially if they do something differently. So fans can experience the magic and mysticism of Richard and his world for a second time like it’s the first time. I will not say that more people should read the novels, but I will ask people to watch because I believe that the Legend of the Seeker is a show that is all too rare in a world of reality shows and documentaries. Its time for fantasy to take over prime time and magazine covers again.
