Widowed only a year, Longmire is a man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit. Struggling since his wife's death and at the urging of his daughter Cady (series star CASSIDY FREEMAN), Longmire knows that the time has come to turn his life around. With the help of Victoria“"Vic"” Moretti (series star KATEE SACKHOFF), a female deputy new to the department, he becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election. When Branch Connally (series star BAILEY CHASE), an ambitious young deputy, decides to run against him for sheriff, Longmire feels betrayed but remains steadfast in his dedication to the community. Longmire often turns to close friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear (series star LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS) for support as he sets out to rebuild both his personal and professional life one step at a time.

When an exotic dancer shows up dead on Longmire's territory, Longmire and his team quickly recognize that the victim is from out of town. As the investigation continues, it becomes evident that her Amish-like roots play a major role in the murder. Meanwhile, Cady develops an unexpected relationship that could stir up controversy in their small town.

When the Stewart family barn goes down in flames with the owner and his beloved award-winning horses inside, Longmire believes this is more than a planned suicide. Through his unconventional and old-fashioned approach, Longmire and his team soon realize that things are not what they seem and the Stewart family's long-buried secrets are the key to solving the investigation.

After a Cheyenne foster child goes missing, Walt and the team investigate the boy's birth family on the Res. The stakes are raised when two more Cheyenne foster boys disappear and an unregistered sex offender is reported missing. The children in the group home insist that the boys were taken by a dog soldier, a legendary Cheyenne warrior who can change shape from man to dog. Walt knows that the kidnapper was not a spirit, but a man who must be found before the unthinkable happens.

When a lone fisherman hooks the bodies of two murdered men, including a teen from the Cheyenne Reservation, Longmire is once again reminded that his beloved West isn't the way it used to be. This investigation takes the Sheriff's department into a world where the Mexican drug cartel is local, marijuana is grown, and everyone wants a piece of the pie. It's Longmire's responsibility to put the pieces of this puzzle together, and he turns to Henry Standing Bear for help.

A body is found in the woods mauled by a bear and Walt suspects that the bear was baited to attack. He and the team must track down both the bear and the person who used it as a murder weapon. When they discover that the victim was a murderer released early from prison due to overcrowding, it leads to a long list of suspects. Meanwhile, Walt must deal with Branch's uncle Lucian (guest star PETER WELLER), a former sheriff who is brought into custody after firing a shotgun in his retirement home and who can't resist inserting himself into the investigation.

When a wealthy beer distributor is found beaten within an inch of his life, Walt is puzzled over why the attacker stole a seemingly worthless painting. The main suspect is a bronc rider whom the victim recently dropped from sponsorship, but the discovery of an affair and a secret about the painting lead the team to realize that there are many possible motives for this brutal crime. Meanwhile, Vic's husband (guest star MICHAEL MOSELEY) returns home for a rare visit and she struggles with his jealousy of her relationship with Walt. Branch's father (guest star GERALD McRANEY) learns something that could be damaging to his campaign.

Walt investigates the murder of a gas station owner who tried to help an unstable and barefoot young woman who claimed to be in danger. He asks Henry to use his tracking skills to find her and the trail leads to an abandoned baby, a heavily guarded drilling site in another county, and evidence of a dangerous cult. The team races to find the young woman, unsure if she is a suspect or a victim, while digging deeper into the cult's mysteries. Henry's previous tracking experiences also reveal insights into Walt's past.

When the president of the Tribal Council is found dead in his car on county land, it's clear to Walt that the body has been moved from the original crime scene - but why? He discovers that the victim had a gambling problem and delves into the seedy world of an underground poker game run out of a tattoo parlor. After tribal politics come into play, the suspect list grows tenfold. Meanwhile, Walt deals with feelings of betrayal when he uncovers Cady and Branch's affair.

Walt investigates the murder of a teenager who was one of four boys acquitted of raping a developmentally disabled Cheyenne girl. When another boy is killed, all signs point to the crime being an act of revenge by the girl's brother. But Walt is not convinced by the circumstantial evidence and must find the real killer before someone else ends up dead. And the arrival of a detective from Denver forces Walt to finally confront the reality of his wife's death.

In the second season premiere, Sheriff Longmire urgently pursues a serial killer and his fellow escapees who have taken hostages up a mountain after a prison transfer goes awry.

When a body is found in a compost heap, the victim's history of abusive behavior leads to a varied list of suspects. Walt and the team must cross county lines to track down the killer. Branch looks into Cady's abrupt departure from Absaroka County.

Walt and the team explore Absaroka's Basque community when a shepherd and his dog are found dead. Branch walks a thin line in his alliance with Jacob Nighthorse (recurring guest star A. MARTINEZ). Meanwhile, Cady looks to Detective Fales (recurring guest star CHARLES DUTTON) for answers about her mother's death.

A cattle heist sends the team on an urgent search for the missing livestock and its driver as well as the thieves. When Vic receives a mysterious bouquet of flowers, her fearful behavior has Walt concerned.

When a teenage girl is found dead, the investigation leads Walt and the team to the illegal sale of prescription drugs. Meanwhile, Henry reconnects with an old flame and Cady returns home.

Walt is tipped off to the murder of a supposed psychic by the Contrary Warrior, a Cheyenne who does the opposite of what people expect. While deciphering his backwards clues, Walt must also deal with a public debate against Branch.

After Henry overhears a disgruntled husband try to order a hit on his wife, Walt and the team must use what little information they have to prevent her murder. Vic is wary when an ex-cop from Philadelphia shows up in Durant Wyoming.

When a wild horse is found dragging a dead body, Walt discovers evidence of an illegal rodeo at a local farm. Detective Fales comes to town to talk to Henry.

Following an explosion on the reservation and the discovery of a dead body, Walt is bombarded with public confrontation as the Cheyennes blame the blast on a gas leak from a fracking operation run by Newett Energy. Meanwhile, Branch reconnects with Cady and uncovers information that could help him win the election.

On Election Day, a terrible accident puts things into perspective for Walt and Branch. Emotions run high as the team races to find a hit-and-run driver.

When a game warden is killed alongside an elk that was poached, Walt discovers a connection to a rare expensive supplement. Walt completes his sacrifice, while Branch closes in on the truth about Cady's accident.

After receiving a severed finger at the station that was unexpectedly left to him in a will, Walt connects this seemingly random act to a new murder – as well as an armed robbery twenty years ago. At the same time, Vic's paranoia peaks when she suspects she is being stalked, forcing her to confide in Walt.

Walt and Branch team up when an apparent suicide is found to be connected to Cady's accident. Meanwhile, Detective Fales returns to Absaroka County with warrants, forcing Walt and Henry to face what happened in Denver.

In the third season premiere episode, Walt deals with the aftermath of Henry's arrest and Branch's shooting. The search for the shooter, however, is complicated by Branch's insistence that it was someone known to be dead.

A murdered Russian adoptee leads Walt and the team to a shady underworld. Henry faces trouble in jail, while Cady struggles to find him an adequate lawyer.

Walt juggles an ongoing murder investigation and his duties as a fill-in judge for the Miss Cheyenne pageant. Meanwhile, Cady looks to an old friend for help with Henry's case.

After a wilderness leadership trip takes a dark turn, Walt and the team must track down a killer and missing teenaged campers. Branch, meanwhile, continues his unsanctioned pursuit of his shooter.

Walt teams up with Lucian Connally (recurring guest star PETER WELLER) to narrow the field of suspects in the aftermath of his wife's murder. And while the team tries to track down a witness who could help Henry's case, Branch's behavior causes trouble.

When a man missing for 30 years shows up dead, Walt must deal with the media frenzy and determine if he really is the long-lost heir to a silver-mining fortune. Henry, meanwhile, is tired of relying on others and makes a risky decision.

Vic's vacation weekend goes awry when an accident leads to her and her husband Sean (recurring guest star MICHAEL MOSLEY) getting kidnapped. In order to rescue them, Walt forges an unlikely alliance.

The investigation into a farmer's apparent murder is complicated by his life insurance policy. While Branch and Cady travel to Denver to search for a lead that might help Henry's case, Vic is given an ultimatum by Sean.

Although he has serious concerns about Branch's behavior, Walt makes a key discovery in the David Ridges case. And while Henry faces a major setback in his trial, Vic makes an important decision about her future.

In the third season finale, Walt seeks closure for both his wife's murder and Henry's case. And although Branch is suspended, he continues to look into Jacob Nighthorse (recurring guest star A Martinez).

In the fourth season premiere episode, Walt is out for revenge — believing that Jacob Nighthorse (recurring guest star A Martinez) was responsible for his wife's death. Meanwhile, Henry is distraught about Hector's death and Cady expresses her concerns about an increasingly erratic Branch to Walt.

Obsessed with solving the mysterious circumstances surrounding Branch's death, Walt deputizes Henry to handle evidence that could overturn the suicide ruling. Meanwhile, Walt and his team investigate the death of a man, Thorvin Hampton, found at an old Japanese internment camp-turned museum. And Henry stands up for a woman on the Rez who's being robbed.

Things come to a head when Jacob Nighthorse holds a press conference accusing Walt of attempted murder. Meanwhile, Walt's daughter, Cady (series star Cassidy Freeman), signs on with a law firm representing the casino and learns of a surprising connection between Nighthorse and Barlow Connally (recurring guest star Gerald McRaney) with implications in Branch's death that lead Walt to confront Barlow.

On the day that the Four Arrows casino opens, Walt returns to work after a voluntary leave of absence to find that Vic has brought in a new deputy, Eamonn O’Neill (guest star Josh Cooke) to help out. While investigating a suspicious death in a traffic accident, Walt is also called in by Tribal Police Chief, Mathias (recurring guest star Zahn McClarnon) to look into Henry’s involvement with a domestic dispute on the Rez.

While Walt interviews candidates for the vacant deputy position, he investigates a series of robberies involving stolen pharmaceuticals and a veterans recovery group run by psychiatrist Dr. Donna Monaghan (guest star Ally Walker).

When a Cheyenne woman, Gabriella "Gab" Langton (guest star Julia Jones) is assaulted on the Rez by oil rig workers, both Mathias and Walt find themselves unable to pursue the suspects due to issues of jurisdiction. But Cady is determined and seeks the help of a Federal Prosecutor to bring Gab's assailants to justice.

Walt investigates a deadly highway robbery with wannabe-deputy Travis Murphy (recurring guest star Derek Phillips). Meanwhile, Mathias agrees to give Cady access to old, neglected legal cases on the Rez. Henry looks to get into Hector-fighting shape, and Walt confides his inner demons to a surprising person.

When one of Gab Langton's attackers is found dead on an oil rig site in neighboring Cumberland County, Walt suspects foul play. Meanwhile, Vic begrudgingly reconnects with deputy Eamonn O'Neill to track down oil worker and conspiracy theorist Archer Loftus (guest star Lew Temple), and Cady worries that Henry might be involved. Whether corruption at the oil company or Hector-style justice is at fault, Walt must act quickly before before another victim falls prey.

Walt deals with the fallout of the shooting of Tyler Malone (guest star Nick E. Tarabay) and the arrest of oil rig worker Trot Simic (guest star Aaron McPherson), while an injured Henry goes on the run with Gab Langton in search of a mysterious Crow Medicine Woman (guest star Tantoo Cardinal). Meanwhile, new deputy Zach Heflin (recurring guest star Barry Sloane) puts his job on the line when a confrontation with a suspect turns violent.

With oil company rep Walker Browning (guest star Callum Keith Rennie) on the war path to find Gab and have Henry arrested, and Monte out for blood after the violent encounter with new deputy Zachary, Walt finds himself under pressure from all sides in the season finale. Meanwhile, Nighthorse resurfaces with offers to both Cady and Henry – that is if a suspicious Mathias doesn't find Henry first.

In the fifth season premiere episode, a shaky Walt searches for Donna (recurring guest star ALLY WALKER) as he and Vic reconstruct what happened in the cabin. Meanwhile, Mathias (recurring guest star ZAHN McCLARNON) has a deal for Henry and Cady tells her dad about a job offer.

While Henry renegotiates his deal with Mathias, Walt’s search for Donna leads to too many suspects and a phone message sends him down an unexpected path.

Walt unravels the puzzling case of a girl and her missing father. As the alliance between Malachi Strand (recurring guest star GRAHAM GREENE) and Jacob Nighthorse weakens, Henry helps Cady find a place on the Rez.

Walt and Vic investigate the bizarre kidnapping of a despised drug company CEO, while Henry and Mathias deal with the ramifications of an overdose.

After Henry discovers a drug dealer’s body, Mathias must join forces with Walt. Meanwhile, Vic solves her housing problem and Malachi puts a bounty on Hector’s head.

Depositions for Walt’s case go badly. Ferg loses confidence in himself. Henry and Vic help lead Walt toward the big boss at Manifest Destinations.

When treasure hunters stumble upon a body in a hollow tree, Walt discovers a connection to an old case. Meanwhile, Cady struggles to help a battered woman on the Rez.

While Malachi and Jacob hurl accusations at each other Walt looks deeper into the Irish mob. Meanwhile, Henry finds the book he needs and Cady gets legal advice.

Walt’s obsession with Jacob Nighthorse leads to increasing tension with Cady. And while Vic testifies against Chance Gilbert (recurring guest star PETER STORMARE), Walt’s anger erupts at the Red Pony.

Walt gets more bad news from the mayor. As Walt learns what’s behind the lawsuit, both Henry and Cady face tribal rituals. And Vic does a strange favor in the season finale.

A bank robbery ends in a shooting, giving Sawyer more leverage against Walt. When Henry goes missing, Cady tells Walt about a disturbing vision.

While Henry recuperates, Walt investigates the murder of a man whose land is popular with treasure hunters.

Chance Gilbert's plea appearance takes a dramatic turn that pulls Walt away from his own case and sets him and Vic on the path to a showdown.

An emotional Vic re-examines her life choices. Henry and Jacob join forces to pursue Malachi. Ferg helps Meg's mother avoid the tribal police.

As the civil trial begins, things don't look good for Walt -- especially after a murder puts him and Vic under suspicion.

The bizarre death of a drug dealer points to a violent new Hector. Cady tries to help a sick child whose parents don't trust Western medicine.

Walt wonders if a presumed-dead member of the Irish mob is alive. Mathias questions Cady about Catori. A mobile clinic raises Henry's suspicions.

While Ferg secretly works the Cowboy Bill case, Walt and Vic try to find Shane Muldoon. Cady's office is trashed.

Vic gets a surprise visit from her father. An FBI agent helps Walt pin down the mole working with Malachi. A tough race enables Vic to move forward.

Jacob's troubles escalate at the casino. Walt gets an unexpected visitor. An inevitable confrontation leads to changed lives.

Longmire has the unique production aspect of being set in Wyoming even though the show is technically photographed in New Mexico. The world Walt Longmire calls home would not be possible without the skilled artisans behind the camera. This documentary looking at Season 1 demonstrates that although story may start on the page, it’s what ends up in the frame that ultimately counts.

Walt Longmire is the modern cowboy that breaks the convention of the past and emerges as a hero.

The bond of friendship between Walt and Henry can never be broken.

Branch has a deep conflict and must find his way in the world.
