She’s a thief. A killer. A saint and a scandal. She’s whatever you need her to be to get the job done. She takes your breath away to get what she wants. She takes everything else just because she can. It’s all in a night’s work for the woman called Fujiko Mine. She’s the slinky, sultry thread that holds Lupin III’s crew together – and this is the heist that started it all.

A Psychedelic Callback To The Original Lupin

Many modern Lupin fans only know the series by its more campy second series and The Castle of Cagiliostro by Miyazaki. Those two provided them a look at a goofy and noble Lupin, who just happened to be a thief. But do they REALLY know Lupin? The Lupin that was willing and able to kill and threaten with a smile on his face? Do they really know the Jigen and Goemon who tried to kill Lupin when they first met? And most importantly, do they know the Fujiko who used her feminine wiles in ways that made the anime directors nervous?

Those views of the characters were provided in the original manga by Monkey Punch and hinted briefly in the first anime. But this series provides the tone and elements of the original manga for the first time in Lupin's anime history. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is a dark look at the Lupin world and characters, filled with gritty action and crime noir story lines. It is not for the faint of heart, but it still keeps elements of the Lupin we all know and love while providing a new look on all the characters, especially Fujiko Mine.

The soundtrack itself keeps the old jazzy and rock elements of the first anime series while the artwork makes it seems like the entire series was lifted right out of a manga, further increasing the dark and gritty tones of the story.

If you love Lupin, or just want to get away from all the shonen/moe anime that has been pumped out by the industry in recent years, I recommend you dive right into this series immediately.
