Description

“Mr. Robot,” is a techno thriller that follows Elliot (Rami Malek, “The Pacific”), a young programmer, who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroad when the mysterious leader of an underground hacker group (Christian Slater, “The Adderall Diaries”) recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world.

One episode in and its already my favorite show

Great characters, Direction, DP work, and most importantly, Story. Where Blackhat fails, this series soars. Perhaps the hacking genres's only good storyline. Performances are excellent all around, and a premise that is appropriately epic in scale. Clever, but never preposterous, Mr Robot never underestimates the audience with tiring exposition instead it effortlessly guides us through the rabbit hole, letting us guess how deep it goes.

Superb!

Obviously cosmiccath and I watched two different programs. I think Rami Malek's paranoid character Elliot is believably flawed (recreational drug user, smoker, sees a therapist) including his binary judgment of good versus evil. While the shadowy power elite is the principal evil, Elliot uses his considerable hacker skills to bring his sense of justice to random sacks of manure (child pornographer, serial womanizer). He clearly wants to save the few people he cares about. I'd hardly consider those typical liberal versus conservative issues. I had no trouble understanding Malek's dialogue/monologue. I hope the writing for the rest of the series is as compelling. I really enjoyed this episode, but I enjoy CBS's Person of Interest and enjoyed AMC's Rubicon.

Impressive

One of the most impressive pilots I’ve ever seen. The premise sounded like the easiest thing in the world to ruin and make stupid and they actually do a good job. Unbelievable. Great writing, acting, everything. Not perfect, this isn’t the greatest show ever made, but it did what no one else in Hollywood/movies/tv has done and actually tried to make something like this believable and get the facts right. I’ve only seen the pilot so far, so here’s to hoping the entire show is Matrix 1 and not the sequels.
