The Second Golden Age of Television

The series Mad Men is the final affirmation that the second Golden Age of television is here. After the run of HBO series like the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love and Sex in the City, comes a new wave of non-premium cable dramas. I suspected this time would come with well written shows like Rescue Me, but I never expected something so well timed and created as Mad Men. Madison Avenue was alive and well in the early sixties and no more captures it's complexities like Don Draper, Peggy Olson or Pete Campbell. These characters and their life stories arch from one season to another and we can't get enough. Just like when television was first invented and became a main stay in family living rooms, we have an unflappable dedication to this show. Much in the same way a family from the late fifties wouldn't dream of missing the Ed Sullivan show, why would you not be prepared for Mad Men season three? The same arching plot-line that captured suburban housewives in soap operas has finally engulfed us all and we can only beg for more. Thank you iTunes for releasing season three simultaneously with the AMC airing. I do not have cable, but pay for only what I want to watch via Apple TV. Finally, to offer all three season in high definition makes me think of days when a dad might walk into the family living room with a new high fidelity stereo system for the family to enjoy. This was what it's all about and still is; we love to feel golden.

Chill out and have a martini

Unless you grew up in the sixties, you would not believe the way Madmen portrays life in America. No seat belts, playing with plastic bags on our heads, going to a picnic in a beautiful park and actually leaving your garbage (I think this all ended with a crying "Indian" ... I mean "Native American"). Thank you Madmen for bringing back memories of life before cell phones, computers and organized play dates for children. I miss the days of parents being involved more with their own lives and acting their age instead of the blurred line between parents and children that exists today....Can't wait for season 3

Best show on TV.

It's disappointing that folks who haven't seen the show post poor reviews, or that people continously need to pour their misguided right-wing hate all over everything (Adam & Steve??? C'mon, man...)...the point is that the writing is first-rate, the set design and costume work are unsurpassed, and there's solid homur where needed. That doesn't even mention the acting, which is, in many case, Emmy-worthy. The world hasn't changed in 40 some-odd years, no matter how much people try to pretend some parts of it don't exist. This show proves it.
