When his beloved wife passed away from cancer in 2003, he married their younger nearby neighbor. Emergency responders arrived and extinguished the fire without issue, but to their horror, they found Dr. Shemwell’s body in the kitchen with several items piled on top of him. It wasn’t until later that afternoon when another one of Eric’s friends stopped by the house and went inside that he made the horrifying discovery of their bloody bodies lying on the kitchen floor, each with multiple gunshot wounds. Senior Investigator Brandon Letterman has spent years trying to uncover the killer’s identity and hopes that with the assistance of the Cold Justice team, he can finally put this case to rest.

Doug Gwinn was a deputy at the time and one of the first officers on the scene. He saw the horrific fire firsthand and along with Senator Kevin Kinney has welcomed the Cold Justice team to the Sheriff’s Department 20 years later in an effort to solve the mystery once and for all.
