Description

The drama series, based on the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids -- where anyone could be a spy for Gilead -- all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Brilliant, Spellbinding Fictional Drama

You can choose to be offended by The Handmai's Tale or, on the other hand, you can try to convince people that this is some kind of clarion call. Whatever, It's an adaptation of a work of fiction. And a darn good one at that. Top of the Lake's Elisabeth Moss is on top of her game here. I love great TV from Jane Austen adaptations to the Walking Dead and in between. This is great TV. It should be 5 stars.

A must-watch in today's political climate

Its a little grim, but excellent watching. A cautionary tale on whatmight happen if women's rights keep being eroded by the far-right and the puritans.

Too much to take

I watched it on Hulu till I couldnt take it anymore. Fine acting and production quality, but the message was so obivously fictional propaganda that I had to stop watching. As a SyFy story it might fly, but to relate it to any real fear or possible reality is simply fear and hate mongering. Some Folks will believe anything, in fact, too many will - thanks to the media's take on things. I simply say, no thanks.
