The critically acclaimed science-fiction hit series returns for its second season. Picking up where the first season left off, Battlestar Galactica continues to chronicle the adventures of a ragtag fleet of humans, the sole survivors of a devastating nuclear attack by the robot Cylons. Faced with an un-winnable battle against a deadly enemy, they are forced to flee under the protection of their one remaining warship, the outdated Battlestar Galactica. Academy-Award nominated actors Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell return as Commander Adama and President Roslin, who must lead these last remnants of humanity in search of a new home — a planet called Earth. But as the events of the second season unfold, it becomes clear that more threatens this fragile society than external forces. Massive fear, paranoia, and political ambition — all classic plagues to developing civilizations — wear away at the already-fatigued fleet.

A remarkable sci-fi achievement
When I heard Sci-Fi was doing a revival of Battlestar Galactica, I cringed. Even when it was new back in the late 1970's, it was cheesy, predictable and thankfully short-lived. I ignored the promos and went on with my life. Then Apple launched downloadable video content, including the new Battlestar Galactica. I figured, "What the hell?" and paid the $2 to see what it was like. I was surprised at how good it was, mostly because they spent as much time on the acting and characters as the sci-fi stuff, which is -- when done well -- just a setting for a human story, not the story itself. Well, I was impressed. Then my wife got me a new iPod, with video. I downloaded the full miniseries from iTunes (about 3 hours). I was blown away. Action and acting and writing and some good special effects. Real (well, mostly) physics and real (well, mostly) injury and death in a true struggle for survival. I was hooked. Since then, I've bought the full Season 1 and all of Season 2 (so far). It's great. Even my wife loves it. I haven't liked a sci-fi show this much since Deep Space Nine, and this is quite a bit better. Doubt it? Just download an episode or two. At most, you'll be out $4 if you don't like it. But beware -- you might just LOVE it.
My friend, who is in to writing screenplays, etc. got me in to this. I was luke warm when I first heard about this "re-do." Then I watched the series......incredible! What gets me, and what I haven't heard in other reviews is the total, exceptional military and technical realism. Rare for any production, let alone a sci-fi one. I spent almost 4 years as an officer on a capital ship in the US Navy. Basically, you could take the military characters, switch them out with the crew onboard a US Navy capital ship and they would behave and talk much like they do in the series. The Point: it makes the show totally believable and therefore makes the drama that much better. They obviously had VERY good military consulting. I have never ever seen such attention to detail *anywhere* on a t.v. show. The series seems to, in part, ask what it means to be human, and is often intellectually stimulating if you read between the lines. The superior acting, writing and realism do not hurt any either. It has become my favorite T.V. show of all time.
Great Escape While Deployed to Iraq
Battlestar Galactica is my favorite show and was very disappointed when I had to deploy to Iraq in the middle of the second season. When I found out about iTunes having downloads of your favoirte TV shows I just had to see if they had Battlestar Galactica. Myself and one of my soldiers thank you for this wonderful opportunity that allows us to follow the series and virtually not miss a beat. The show is awesome. Thank you.
