As Europe stands on the brink of war, Ireland natives, including three young women with very different upbringings face emotional and physical turmoil as they decide to take up arms against the British.
News of the disastrous set-back spreads and the maneuvers behind the planned uprising are rescinded. Frances refuses to accept that her dream is in tatters while Elizabeth resigns herself to a marriage to Stephen.
The rebels start to feel the wrath of the British Empire. The tightening of the British Army’s ‘ring of steel’ around the rebels leads to increasing loss of life and destruction of property on all sides.
The city has been leveled by British bombardment. The rebels are cornered and eventually surrender. The wounded Connolly, Jimmy and Elizabeth are amongst those arrested. As the Rebels wait to hear their fate, the executions begin.
As Frances, May & Aunt Nellie are terrorized by Detective Coleman, Peggy cannot forgive Jimmy for Peter’s death and May tries to turn herself in to the authorities.
