The daily goings-on in the small town of Rome, Wisconsin are definite proof that real life is often stranger than fiction. From the murder of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz to a student who brings in a severed hand for show-and-tell, and a menopausal woman who runs over her husband with a steamroller, Sheriff Jimmy Brock has seen it all. Indeed, behind the tidy picket fences of this quirky little town lie all the same problems and prejudices found in the big city, except in a small town everyone seems to know everyone else's business — or thinks they do!

They don't make shows like this anymore...
The writing on this show was nothing short of brilliant. "Picket Fences" is one of those rare instances in a television show where everything clicked. This is a rare gem that people have seemed to have forgotten. I highly recommend this show.
ONE OF THE BEST OF THE 90'S!!!!
The best David Kelley show ever!
I just got this show on DVD and it is as entertaining to watch today as it was when it first aired. The characters work so well together and the town of Rome, Wisconsin (which was intended to serve as a character as well) makes me want to give up urban life and pack it for suburban pastures. Highly recommended!
